Vivian pov.
Marvis Style wanted to laugh, but the moment he saw Dominic Blackwood's tense expression, he quickly suppressed the smile at the corners of his lips.
Before Marvis could usher him out, Dominic stood up and said, "I won't disturb you any longer, Marvis."
As he brushed past me, he almost ground his teeth and said, "You better keep your little tricks to yourself and not embarrass me."
I gave a cold smile. I knew that Dominic didn't genuinely care about my reputation; to him, I was merely an extension of himself, and others had no right to interfere.
He had set strict rules for me while secretly communicating with Scarlett Hayes. What gave him the right?
Marvis's gaze swept over the two of us, and once Dominic had left, he pretended to probe, "Vivian, do you know him?"
I replied curtly, "No."
Marvis chuckled. This couple was quite amusing. One came early in the morning to negotiate for his woman, while the other treated the other like air.
But that was our business, and he didn't want to interfere. He got straight to the point: "Our internal team has discussed it and decided to accept bids from both Achievers and the Hayes family. However, according to company policy, we can only choose one for collaboration."
"I understand. So, you plan to let Achievers and the Hayes family compete fairly?"
"Exactly. Vyx will propose a design theme, and both Achievers and the Hayes family will present their best works for the competition. As for who wins in the end, that will be determined by the quality of the submissions."
I had to admit that Vyx's decision was quite wise. Using competition to select a partner was both fair and generated buzz, effectively promoting the collaboration.
"I have no objections, but what is the theme Vyx is proposing?"
Marvis wrote two words on a piece of paper: "Wedding Dress."
My face turned pale, my lips lost all color, and my fingers slowly curled up, as if I was desperately trying to suppress something inside me.
Marvis noticed my unusual reaction. "I remember that Mieli is vowing never to design wedding dresses again.
Every woman has a dream of wearing a pure white wedding dress to kiss her beloved, but my dream had been shattered from the very start.
I even swore I would never design wedding dresses again.
After a long pause, I gathered my thoughts and trembled as I spoke, "Marvis, can we change the theme?"
Marvis twirled the pen in his hand. "Vivian, you should understand that the reason I brought up wedding dress design is entirely for Mieli's sake."
In other words, there was no room for negotiation.
I didn’t want to lose this opportunity. I took a deep breath and cleared my throat. "Alright, I will convey your words to Mieli."
A mysterious smile curved Marvis's lips. "And tell Mieli that I personally admire her, so I have high expectations for her work."
At that moment, I felt as if he could see right through me, but I maintained my composure. After finalizing the details of the competition with Marvis, I stood up to leave.
To my surprise, Dominic Blackwood was standing outside the door.
He seemed to be on a phone call, and upon hearing the door open behind him, he said, "Let's talk later, I’ll hang up."
I intended to ignore him and brush past, but he extended his long leg, blocking my path.
"You don't know me?"
I frowned and said, "Get out of the way."
Dominic raised an eyebrow. Ever since I moved out of the Blackwood family home, I had become bolder, daring to speak to him like that. He yanked the silk scarf from around my neck and glanced at the marks on my swan-like neck, mocking, "So you're really a cold-hearted woman. Last night you were all smiles beside me, and today you act like you don't know me."
I felt a mix of shame and anger. How dare he bring up last night! Grinding my teeth, I lowered my voice, "Dominic Blackwood, according to the law, marital infidelity is also illegal. I wouldn't mind sending you to prison for a few years."
Instead of getting angry, he laughed. He pressed down hard on the bruise on my lip, "You still remember we're married?"
My chest felt tight with rage. Sometimes, I really couldn't understand this man. He was the one who despised me, and he was the one tangled up with Scarlett Hayes, yet he made it seem like I was the one forcing him to divorce.
Not far away, James Scott seemed to be performing a cheesy magic trick for his secretary, who giggled, creating a flirtatious atmosphere.
He scoffed, "You have terrible taste."
I shot back, "Right back at you."
James Scott might be a bit of a player, but Scarlett Hayes was no saint either. Dominic was the one who willingly slept with her!
The thought of him being affectionate with me while possibly cuddling with Scarlett at night made my stomach churn. I couldn't stand being around him for another moment.
"Dominic, if nothing unexpected happens, I'll be back in paris in three days. Let's meet at the civil affairs bureau then."
He let out a cold laugh, “Are you really that eager to be with him?”
“Dominic, the one who should be eager is you,” I replied, Scarlett Hayes now three months pregnant. In another two months, it would be hard to hide her baby bump.
His temper flared, his expression darkening. “Vivian Carter, I’ve already given you a chance. If you won’t cherish it, then don’t blame me.”
“Well, thank you for your kindness, Dominic, but unfortunately, I’m not lucky enough to handle it,” I retorted.
He gritted his teeth, “Fine. Just don’t come up with excuses when the time comes.”
“Of course not!” I pushed past him and walked toward James Scott.
His gaze was fixed on the two approaching figures, his eyes gradually turning a shade of crimson.
James felt a chilling presence behind him and instinctively turned around. When he met Dominic’s gaze, he couldn’t help but scoff.
“Damn, what’s Dominic doing here?”
I didn’t hide the truth. “He’s the partner Marvis Style mentioned.”
“What? You went to negotiate with him last night?!”
“Yeah.”
James glanced at the marks on my neck. “Then what’s going on here?”
My voice, neither too loud nor too soft, fell into Dominic Blackwood's ears, causing his expression to darken immediately.
Marvis leaned against the doorframe, watching the scene unfold with amusement. "Dominic, the person has already walked away. Why are you still staring?"
