Chapter 5: The Echo Returns

400 Words
The next day, Alina stood at the base of the Stonehaven Lighthouse, clutching the letters tightly. The wind whipped her hair around her face as she climbed the spiral staircase, her heart pounding. At the top, the memories came rushing back. She could almost hear Daniel’s voice, the way he had laughed, the songs he had played on his guitar. As she stood there, Arman’s voice startled her. “I thought I might find you here.” She turned to see him leaning against the railing, his coat dusted with snow. “What are you doing here?” she asked. “I could ask you the same thing,” he said, his tone gentle. “But I think I already know.” She hesitated, then held out the letters. “These were from someone I loved. He left without saying goodbye, and I’ve been carrying this ever since.” Arman took the letters, his brow furrowing as he read. When he finished, he looked up at her, his expression unreadable. “Alina… there’s something you need to know,” he said. “Daniel wasn’t just a musician. He was my older brother.” The world seemed to tilt. Alina stared at him, the revelation crashing over her like a wave. “What?” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “He never told me about you,” Arman continued. “But after he left, I found his journal. He wrote about a girl who changed his life, who made him want to be better. I didn’t realize until now that it was you.” Alina’s knees felt weak, and she gripped the railing for support. “Why didn’t he come back? Why didn’t he tell me any of this?” Arman’s expression softened. “He struggled with things he didn’t know how to share. But he loved you, Alina. That much is clear.” Tears blurred her vision. For so long, she had been caught in the echo of her love for Daniel, unable to move forward. But now, standing here with Arman, she felt something shift. “I don’t know what to do with this,” she admitted. “Let it guide you,” Arman said. “But don’t let it hold you back.” As they descended the lighthouse together, Alina felt a flicker of hope—like the light of the beacon, cutting through the darkest night.
