April 18 I've been doing some research on the Captain Marina idea, and I think it might actually be doable! I had been concerned that my boating experience would only qualify me for the six-pack license, which would mean I could only drive a charter boat with six passengers. From my review of the Coast Guard's requirements, though, it looks like my experience and sea service on dive boats on near coastal waters qualify me to apply for my Master License. That will allow me to captain a vessel up to 100 tons. Yikes! And woo hoo! More good news... there is a Coast Guard Regional Exam Center in Miami, so I don't have to travel very far to apply.
