Chapter Twelve At last came the night of the grand opening of The Magic Box—at last! The time and effort and sheer emotional energy which the three had spent over the months were incalculable. Sometimes the owners had gone to the club before dawn to prowl consideringly through the mysteriously twisting corridors and sumptuous chambers and cozy nooks of the mazy structure, checking on the progress of the project. Literally every night at least one or two of the founders came by as well to oversee the finishing and outfitting of various special-purpose rooms, or all of them met in their private boardroom adjacent to the high-tech control center of the building for yet another session of planning and strategizing.
