Chapter 9 – The Road to the Expo
The week crawled by, every hour heavy with anticipation. The Tech Expo loomed like a battlefield on the horizon, and whispers of the coming clash spread across campus like wildfire.
Adrian could feel the stares wherever he went. Students who had never noticed him before now whispered his name with a mix of awe and fear. Some looked at him as a prodigy, others as a dangerous anomaly. Professors, too, cast wary glances—half curious, half threatened.
But Adrian ignored them all. His focus was absolute.
The Aegis AI Core floated in his workshop, its crystalline surface pulsing with light like a second heart. Each beat seemed to whisper power, promise, danger. The system had consumed every scrap of metal and plastic he could salvage, draining him of sleep and food, but in return, it had given him something priceless.
A creation worthy of rewriting history.

Three days before the Expo, Adrian tested the core in secret.
“Lens,” he commanded, slipping the AI sphere into a custom-built housing. “Initialize Aegis.”
The apartment lights flickered. A cool, synthetic voice filled the room—smooth, steady, unlike the neutral system.
> [Aegis Online. Good evening, Creator.]
Adrian’s eyes narrowed. It worked. The AI was self-aware—rudimentary for now, but already learning.
“Scan the room,” he ordered.
Instantly, blue holograms unfolded across his vision—detailed schematics of his apartment, from electrical wiring to structural weaknesses.
> [Analysis Complete: Environmental integrity 62%. Suggestion: Relocate. This residence is structurally inefficient.]
Adrian chuckled. “Already nagging me, are you?”
The AI remained silent, processing. Then it spoke again, voice lower, almost thoughtful:
> [Projected Outcome: Tech Expo will attract attention not only from peers, but from corporate and government entities. Probability of hostile interest—87%. Recommend concealment protocols.]
Adrian leaned back, eyes glittering. “Good. Let them come. If they want a glimpse of the future, I’ll make sure it blinds them.”

The morning of the Expo arrived.
The campus was transformed—banners strung between buildings, booths flashing with prototypes, projectors humming as students prepared to display months, even years of work. Companies had sent representatives, professors lined the front rows, and media drones hovered overhead to capture every moment.
The air was electric with ambition and competition.
Adrian walked through the gates slowly, his plain attire making him look almost invisible. But whispers followed him like shadows.
“There he is…”
“That’s the one who shut down Professor Kane.”
“They say he’s going to challenge Marcus Blackwell head-on.”
Marcus himself stood near the main stage, surrounded by admirers. His booth gleamed with sleek tech—miniature robots, energy-efficient engines, holographic displays. Cameras flashed, students fawned. He looked every bit the prince of the engineering world.
When his eyes met Adrian’s, his smile twisted into a sneer. He mouthed silently across the distance: You’re finished.
Adrian only smirked. We’ll see.
The system chimed in his ear as if echoing his thoughts:
> [Mission Reminder: Dominate the Campus Tech Expo.]
[Reward Pending: Advanced Blueprint Tier.]
Adrian tightened his grip on the discreet case carrying the Aegis Core. His masterpiece. His weapon.
He didn’t come here to compete. He came here to conquer.
