Rebirth Of The Tech Emperor Chapter 11

--- Chapter 11 – Ripples of Power The auditorium had never been so silent. For a heartbeat, it felt as though the world itself held its breath, suspended in the glow of the Aegis Core. Then, like a dam bursting, the hall erupted into chaos. Students surged forward, chattering excitedly, pointing at the crystalline sphere still hovering above Adrian’s case. Professors muttered furiously among themselves—half in awe, half in disbelief. The media drones swooped closer, their lenses drinking in every flicker of light. The announcer struggled to regain control. “P-Please, everyone, settle down! Judges will… deliberate shortly!” But order was impossible. Adrian had detonated a bomb, and nothing could contain the blast. --- In the front row, Professor Kane’s face was ashen. The man who once sneered at Adrian now looked as if the ground had been pulled from under him. He whispered to a colleague, “If this is real… it changes everything. Everything.” Marcus, however, was far from silent. He shoved his way toward Adrian, his entourage trailing behind like angry dogs. His voice cracked through the din. “You think this proves anything?” he spat, his eyes burning. “It’s smoke and mirrors. A parlor trick. My robots are practical, usable. Your ‘AI’—if it even works—will never survive outside a lab!” Adrian turned slowly, meeting Marcus’s glare with an icy calm. “Practicality is the refuge of the small-minded. You build toys, Marcus. I’m building the future.” The words cut deeper than any insult. Marcus’s fists clenched, his face contorted. He looked ready to strike before one of the judges raised a hand. “That’s enough,” Judge Evelyn Marrow snapped, her sharp voice silencing the crowd. She was a woman of authority, silver-haired and stern-eyed, respected across every technological field. “Both projects will be judged on merit. Not theatrics.” She turned to Adrian. “Mr. Cross, what safeguards have you built into this… system? An AI of this complexity, if true, poses existential risks.” Adrian’s Smart Lens flickered. The system chimed in his ear. > [Warning: Revealing full safety protocols compromises future leverage. Suggested Response: Partial Disclosure.] Adrian smirked faintly. “Aegis is bound by layered ethical constraints. It cannot act independently beyond designated parameters without my authorization. Think of it as a scalpel, not a sword. Dangerous only in the wrong hands.” Aegis’s voice chimed smoothly, filling the hall: > [Confirmed. Creator’s directives are prioritized above all else. Autonomous action probability without command: 0.003%.] Murmurs rippled. Some professors nodded, reassured. Others looked even more unsettled. --- The deliberation dragged on, but the result was inevitable. When the judges returned to the stage, Evelyn Marrow spoke with crisp finality. “After careful consideration, the panel has reached its decision. This year’s Expo Champion is—Adrian Cross, for the Aegis AI Core.” The hall exploded. Some students cheered wildly, others groaned in disbelief. Corporate representatives immediately surged forward, business cards flashing like weapons. One man in a sleek black suit cornered Adrian first, his handshake firm, smile predatory. “James Rourke, TitanTech Industries. We’d like to sponsor your research. Full lab access, unlimited funding.” Another woman in a crimson dress slid in smoothly. “Ignore him. Horizon Dynamics can triple that offer. We’ll make you head of our AI Division tomorrow.” More voices crowded around him, each louder than the last. Promises of wealth, power, influence—offered like candy to a starving child. Adrian’s eyes remained cool. He took none of the cards, shook no hands. Not yet. Not until I know how to use them, not the other way around. Behind the swarm, Marcus stood alone. His face was pale, lips trembling. The golden boy, dethroned in a single day. His eyes burned with something darker than anger now—something poisonous. Hatred. He turned sharply, storming out of the hall, but not before muttering under his breath, “I’ll destroy you, Cross. Even if it kills me.” --- High above, in a corner no one noticed, two men in gray suits watched the chaos unfold. Unlike the corporations, they didn’t rush forward. Their expressions were grim, calculating. One whispered into a concealed earpiece. “Subject confirmed. The intelligence is real.” The other nodded. “Orders?” A pause. Then a cold voice crackled back through the earpiece. “Monitor. Do not engage. If he cannot be controlled… he must be eliminated.” The men faded into the crowd, leaving no trace. Adrian felt a prickle at the back of his neck, an instinct honed in his previous life. He knew predators when they were near. He glanced toward the shadows, eyes narrowing. They’re already circling. The system chimed softly, almost as if it sensed his thoughts. > [New Mission Unlocked: Survive the Hunters.] [Reward: Combat Subsystem Access.] Adrian’s lips curved into a smile, faint and dangerous. Let them come. ---
