Chapter 5 – The First Test
Morning sunlight filtered through the blinds, cutting stripes across Adrian’s face. He pushed aside the noodle packet he had half-finished and slipped on the Smart Lens.
“Lens,” he said, “let’s test field capability.”
The AI’s smooth voice replied in his mind: [Acknowledged.]
He left the apartment, blending with the crowd on the bustling street. The city roared with life—street vendors shouting, cars honking, students rushing. Yet through the lens, the chaos was order. Labels hovered over every face and object, glowing data streams dancing in his vision.
A businessman: Heart rate: 98. Mild stress. Wallet in left pocket—balance: $230.
A street vendor: Freshness rating of fruit: 54%. Unsanitary conditions detected.
A group of students: Facial Recognition Search: Database of local university detected. Matching IDs available.
Adrian smirked. The lens wasn’t just a gadget—it was a weapon, a shield, a key to every locked door in society.
He paused when his gaze landed on a tall student walking ahead. Data flooded in:
> [Target: Victor Hale Jr.]
[Relation: Son of Victor Hale – CEO of Hale Dynamics Corporation.]
Adrian froze. His past life’s betrayer. The man who had stabbed him. And now—his son, alive and well, casually striding down the street.
Rage and curiosity warred inside him. So fate has thrown me a toy already.
He clenched his fists, forcing his breath steady. Not yet. I’ll build my empire first. Then, when the time is right… he’ll know exactly who destroyed him.
The system chimed softly in his ear.
> [New Mission Available: Rise at the University.]
[Task: Demonstrate your genius and begin establishing your reputation.]
[Reward: Skill Upgrade – Enhanced Processing Speed.]
Adrian’s lips curved upward.
“University, huh? Then let’s give them a performance they’ll never forget.”
