“What is the time?” I asked I would have checked myself but it would strain my eyes to see all the way to the other side of the room.
“Time?” Ray looked astonished at my question but he answered anyway. “A quarter to one basically twelve forty-five”
My eyes widened, it was barely an hour after I had been attacked. “How long was I out or should I say dead?” I struggled to my feet once again, I didn't want to piss off Jay by being dormant and unmoving.
“I don't know,” Ray said as he once again helped me up. “But we've been here for about thirty minutes.”
I've probably been awake for about fifteen minutes, the creepy man attack couldn't have taken more than minutes even though it had felt like fifty to me and it would have taken me less than that to completely bleed out. I frowned, my thoughts were back to normal, I could think properly.
I looked Jay in the eyes, he stood not so far from us with his hand in his pocket as he watched me struggle to get my stance. With a scoff to my nose and a glint to my eyes I spoke as loud as I could, “I'm in.”
It was only for a second and I would have missed it, if my eyes weren't on him; Jay looked pleased with my response. I found his reaction very surprising. Almost immediately, he moved as if my words had unshackled him.
“This is the right decision. Ray, let's get to work.”
My reason to join them was simple, even if they were the bad guys, it was obvious I wasn't the same again which meant I couldn't live like I used to. My parents would probably find this unbelievable though they could be lying about them being fine, one thing was certain, I wouldn't know any more than I did without joining them and this was at the top of my priority.
Another thing was, I had a choice if I didn't they could have hurled me away while I was still dead. It would have been ideal for them but then I remembered the argument that was very vague in my thoughts and I wondered if they wanted to confirm something before they made any move.
“Where do you keep your cleaning tools?” Ray asked.
“Um, the pantry I guess…”
“Could you point the way?”
“I could just take you there.”
“I can assure you that even if you tried you wouldn't be able to walk more than a few feet and it would be faster this way, we don't have much time.”
I frowned but I did as Ray asked, I watched him move and I knew there was no way I would think he was any different than my next-door neighbor, I would swear he was still human even the color of his skin was nothing like my pale one. What was going to happen to me?
