CHAPTER TWO

I opened my eyes and closed them immediately, the light was too bright. Light? What's that? My thoughts were foggy. Memories were even more so. “Yo!” A voice cut through my thoughts. “You're awake. That's faster than expected.” He was leaning towards my bent structure. I couldn't clearly see his face because he had his back to the light. Flesh! Brain! Flesh! Brain! A loud voice in my head screamed, I tried to growl but no sound came out. I immediately went after the person in front of me with just my teeth, I gnarled and he jumped out of my reach. “Oops,” he was a little too light on his feet in my opinion. My arms felt very numb as if they were far away. I tried to move them but they wouldn't do as I wanted, only my teeth seemed to have a mind of their own. They kept shaking and jamming against each other. “Is she a Zomb?” Another voice said, I jerked my head up. I had been completely oblivious to the presence of another person. “Jay! When you say it like that, it sounds like we are not Zombies.” “But isn't that what we call people that end up like her.” “Yeah but that doesn't mean you should say it with such disdain. Not everyone is as lucky as we are.” “Don't you mean smart?" He asked with a sarcastic tone. “According to Mic the higher your IQ the higher your chances of ending up like us, else you'll just be a Zomb.” “That's mere speculation, Mic said so himself.” “Himself?” “I-it was an h-honest mistake, Jay…” I growled again, this time around I only succeeded in making a slight sound. Their words made very little sense to me but the back and forth was annoying especially since I couldn't move. The sound I made returned their attention to me. “Ah, talking won't be easy or making any sound for that matter. You have to breathe.” The one named Jay was saying. I could hear his words loud and clear but the meaning made no sense to me. “B-r-e-a-t-h-e…” The other boy whose name I didn't know spoke this time. “She's slow. Think we should kill her before she turns into the rabid ones?” “What! Jesus Christ Jay, give her time. If she eventually turns into one, we can handle her.” Their words were slowly beginning to make sense to me. My thoughts were becoming more coherent. I stopped growling and raised my head that had been hanging at an awkward angle. I had my back to the wall and my butt to the ground, my left knee was bent while the right sprawled on the ground. Who are you? I tried to say but no words came out. I tried to lift my hand but I only succeeded in lifting it off the ground a little. I could see they were both studying me. “You need to breathe to speak.” One of them mentioned, he had on glasses. Breathe? And that was when I realized I wasn't breathing. My eyes widened and my brain went straight into a panic mood. I thrashed around and this time my limbs obeyed. “Calm down, it's not as bad as it seems and if you were wondering yes, you're dead.” “We can kill you again if that's what you want.” The one with glasses muttered.
