We soon arrived at the main entrance to a huge building. The building looked too big and I immediately began to calculate just how many of us were here. Considering the only number of people I had run into could be counted off my fingers, I couldn't help but think I was missing something.
Melvin pushed the huge doors open with one hand after turning the knob, I thought they would be a lot harder than that. I guess not. The huge door revealed a huge corridor. There was a counter not too fast off and I wondered if this was built as a hotel.
"Where is her room?" Karen asked suddenly, interrupting my thoughts.
"We figured the ground floor was fine for now so she wouldn't have issues coming down. She could always change it whenever she wants." Ray ventured in a rush.
"Yeah, yeah where is it?" Karen blurted.
"Down the corner, Room 003." He explained.
She immediately led me in the direction of the said room without a moment's pause and the next thing I knew was in front of a closed door. Ray quickly unlocked it and Karen led me inside. That was when I noticed Jay was no longer behind me but I didn't think much about it.
The room was a typical hotel room and even though I had only ever been in one when I went on a vacation with my parents, I had seen enough movies to know what a typical hotel room looked like.
There was a bed a few feet from the door, it was the largest but I could definitely sleep comfortably. Wait a minute, do I sleep?
"Do we sleep?" I asked suddenly, just as Karen placed me on the bed. I couldn't tell if it was soft but I sank in so it was safe to assume so.
I saw her freeze up for a bit but I didn't think it was because of the question but more of the fact that I had thought to ask it. "What do you think?" She asked and shrugged her shoulders.
"We don't," I said immediately. I suspected but as I tried not to think about it, I couldn't understand how this could work. However, I was more worried about how this would affect me and if I would be able to get used to it.
"Pretty much."
"Doesn't it feel weird?" I asked and placed my hands behind me as I sat on the bed to give me balance.
"Not really, it's weird yeah but you don't exactly miss as much as you think you would." As I watched her speak, I didn't think it would be as easy as she said. I almost laugh at the thought that my younger self would be thrilled to hear this.
My eyes instantly caught sight of the television directly in front of my bed and the next thing I could think of was… "Does that mean I can binge watch forever?"
There was a slight pause where I wasn't sure Karen got what I said and then she burst into laughter. "Yeah I am sure you can," she chuckled. "But no, here we need you for something else."
"Knock, knock!" Jay's voice rang out, jolting our attention.
I turned to the door, where the sound was coming from. I had a clear view of Jay but I couldn't see the figures behind. However, I could tell there were people behind him.
"Jay!" Karen cried. "I was wondering where you went."
"Well, I thought I might as well bring the newbies." He announced proudly and I heard a soft voice speak and begin to walk towards me.
It was redhead, the first I thought of was how bright her hair was. I couldn't help but think it was very pretty, I wondered if she dyed it but it didn't look so. I looked down at her face and it was even more shocking.
It was oval and small, her facial features were quite impressive, everything was small but none were as impressive as hair. The rest of her was pretty expected. She was petite and was a lot curvy at least compared to my straight figure. She didn't look taller than five feet two inches. I thought of how she could have gotten bitten and hoped hers wasn't as nasty as mine.
"Hi," she said with a grin walking towards me. She didn't stop until she was inches from my face. "My name is Grace." Her grin morphed and became something creepy, I instinctively cringed.
"Gracie!" Karen called.
Grace threw her head backward and laughed. "Sorry, I couldn't help it." She muttered and took a step back. "What's your name?"
"Raquel," I replied.
"Grace," she repeated and I found myself smiling.
"You said so before." I chuckled.
"Really?" She laughed. "I am so excited, I've been the only girl stuck with these blockheads." She pointed in the direction she came from and my eyes followed.
Standing not far away were two boys, they looked pretty odd. They were both of average heights but one was slightly taller than the other. The slightly shorter one was wearing glasses, I thought that was odd but I figured the virus didn't make a body part better, just kept it in the same state.
"Christ Gracie! Don't call us blockheads." The glasses dude cried out and adjusted his glasses. His voice was surprisingly steady, I thought it sounded nice. "I am Vincent but you can call me Cent, everyone does and this mute here is Baka, sorry Blake."
I saw it before I heard it, Blake lifted his hand and dropped it heavily on Cent's head. "Don't call me a mute," I screamed for Cent, a soft sound of pain left my lips.
"Ow! That hurts." Cent yelled, holding his head.
"Shut the f**k up! You can't feel pain!" Blake replied with a smile. His smile made it feel okay to smack Cent.
"Well, I felt this one." Cent protested and I nodded even I felt it.
"Enough!" Gracie yelled then looking at me she said, "See why I called them blockheads."
