CHAPTER 12: THE UNEXPECTED GUEST...

SAPPHIRE’S POV: We were laughing at Max and Bella’s adorable snap fights when the intercom rang... I rose to take the call. “Hello?” The sweet voice came from the other side. “Hello? Steel residence, Miss Steel speaking.” I replied and looked at Adam who was already looking at me. “Hello dear! I’m Adam’s Mom! Your soon to be mother-in-law! I went to Adam’s place but his friend said he usually spends his weekends here. Can I come in! Cause your guards says I’m a new face. I wanted to surprise Adam...” my eyes widened in surprise as I realised who I’m talking to. I looked at Adam and made a move with my hand for him to come to me. He raised his brows and came to me. Max and Bella followed too. “I’m very happy to hear that you are here to meet us. My bodyguard Mr Smith will be there to pick you up immediately.” I said with a tight smile on my face as the speaker was on. “Very well Dear. I’m waiting.” As soon as Adam heard the voice from the other side. He took Bella and Max by there hands and took them upstairs to our room, probably. I looked back at the intercom and signed after I hung up. “Mr Smith, please receive Mrs Black from the entrance of the estate.” I hung up the intercom again, without even waiting for his greetings. I ran to my room, knowing that my man would be having a hard time right now. As soon as I opened the bedroom door, I was hit by the cold London air. Looking at the large balcony of my room I saw Adam sitting on one of the love seats. ‘That means Max and Bella left from the patio area.’ I released a deep breath and took the Quilt off the couch rest and sat right on the man’s lap. Making sure that the quilt covers both of us now. “I was having a great day.” I heard Adam speak. Feeling him taking a deep breath of my rose-scented hair as he held my waist tightly from behind. I rested my back over his chest and rested my head on his shoulder. “I know. But you have to meet her. She is here to surprise you. As she says...” I trailed off the last part, planting a kiss on his neck before continuing. “You have to meet her.” “Hmm. Two minutes. I feel comfortable.” He mumbled and laid back. I closed my eyes in content too. The feeling of him holding me in his strong arms is increasing if you ask me. Just a month ago, I was hell-bent to not have any personal life and now I can’t even think of being alone. We talk about everything. We laugh at the stuff, fight over childish things. In short, we live a peaceful and happy life if you ask me. AND that was until we found Max is actually Adam’s brother and we can’t scream the truth out loud. And I know the fact that it bothers Adam more than he shows that it does. We sat quietly until the intercom on the table rang. Knowing who it would be, Adam lightly kissed my hair before we stood up and folded the quilt before we left the room.  “Adam my Baby!!!” As soon as we stepped into the living room Adam was pulled into a bone-crushing hug (as I was jerked by the force she used to pull Adam and my hands apart).  I signed mentally at the grating voice of the middle-aged woman in front of me. Mrs Black. She wore a black leather knee-length dress which was like a second skin. After a long hug and Adam’s chocking sound, she finally let go of him. “You must be the one Ethan was talking about since he came back to New York.” The coldness in her voice and void of her eyes gave away the fact that she has nothing to do with me and Adam’s life. And somehow I liked it. Not that I didn’t want a mother figure in my life. Let’s just say after Olivia, I can’t bring myself to think of anything near my mother. “Good Afternoon Mrs Black. Nice to meet you.” I smiled lightly and moved a little close to Adam. She made a face from my action, letting me know by her eyes that she doesn’t bite at least not literally... “Flora, I’m so happy to see you! What a pleasant surprise!!” We were snapped out of our eye contest when Adam took my hand in his as he spoke to Mrs Black. I looked at him in shock when I get to know the fact that he doesn’t call Mrs Black his mom. In a small part of my heart, I liked that he doesn’t. “I wanted to meet my son. I haven’t seen you since you left New York.” She said in an overdramatic manner and moved her hand up and down over Adam’s arm. Making me and my Man more uncomfortable than ever. Not wanting to make the situation any more awkward. I pulled Adam back from her and smiled through my gritted teeth. “Please have a seat, Mrs Black. We’ll be back with some tea and snacks.” I was about to urn around when her high pitch voice stopped me. “You don’t have any maids to do the chores? I thought you were taking over your adoptive father’s heritage.” Mrs Black commented in a sarcastic tone. I felt my blood boil as she mentioned my dad. And felt Adam’s hand tightened around mine and knowing his bad boy tamper, I warped my other hand over his bicep and pulled him a little. I felt his sign and his hand loosened again. “Flora, we like to make food for each other on the weekends. We didn’t expect any surprises from you or else the staff wouldn’t have left early to give us some private time as we like to have.” Adam said it so sweetly that if a third person would have heard the words without knowing the situation, he or she would have thought that Adam will propose to the old lady the very next moment. While his words made me laugh which I held back. Mrs Black huffed and sat on the sofa of the fireplace. I and Adam moved to the kitchen and as we walked in, I chuckled at Adam’s red face. “I do want to have a relaxing weekend!” He crossed his hand over his chest and leaned on the frame of the kitchen entrance. I moved from cabin to cabin and took my favourite coffee along with the family coffee cups. “Well, we will have a relaxing weekend. Max has a surprise for you tonight.” I smirked and made the batter for the cake. “Hmm. Why I feel like I’ve had enough surprises for this month.” He moved closer to me and held me close to him from the back. I relaxed in his arms and felt his hand move from my stomach to the upper body. His lips teased my earlobe making my head move to the side to give him more access. His other hand moved over mine and helped me to continue with the batter. “Mrs Black is just a few doors away...” I whimpered and closed my eyes. “Then you shouldn’t make any noise, Angel.” He moved his hand up to my chin and made me turn to him. I waited for his lips eagerly, which didn’t happen though. I frowned and opened my eyes, only to see Adam looking past me. I turned around to see the third wheel and would’ve felt if it wasn’t Adam holding me. “What the hell are you still doing here!” My man and I screamed simultaneously.
