SAPPHIRE’S POV:
“Caroline are you okay?” I was Barbara run to her boss as she gently pulled her hair out of her face and rubbed her back.
“I’m good… I’m good. Just this morning sickness is taking a troll over me and... and I don’t think I can make this work. This is our first big project and I think I’m ruining everything. Me Black trusted me with his wedding and I think I’m going to have to get out of it. I don’t think I’m ready for so much stress.” Carolina started and kept on babbling things about how inappropriate her work is for someone so rich and famous.
“You do realise that Sapphire and Adam’s wedding is going to be the talk of the month and everything will be looked at and examined closely by so many people. People that are big sharks in the business world and the critic world.” I looked at the table she decorated and almost gasped at its beautiful and elegant view.
No doubt Adam chose her as our wedding planner and not anyone else. The girl has very good taste.
Everything she suggested to us and altered as per her choice looked so Mesmerising. she did a fantastic job, no wonder Adam was so confident in recommending her.
The choice of Flowers she suggested and we agreed were the best. Not even I would have had an eye for details and style that Carolina had for it. It was after all her first life-changing event.
Thatcher wasn’t a big name in the line of event planning as it was established just last year. But Adam happened to visit a small charity event that was organised by this company and it immediately clicked on him that this was something he was looking for. And if Adam praises someone’s hard work it must be hard work.
As I looked at the tablecloth and the centrepiece and praised them in the subconscious, I heard a gasp and footsteps that ran out of this room. I turned to see that Carolina has left the room with Barbara standing by her table looking around the office in an awkward form.
“So, why you guys are keeping it secret?” I raised a brow with a small smile playing on my face. Barbara looked like she just saw a ghost as she looked anywhere but me.
“What… What are you talking about, Miss Steel?” I gave her a look and she let out a small smile.
“It is complicated…” Barbara trailed off as she showed me her ring finger and I got a whole picture. She smiled and nodded as Carolina entered the room with a confident look on her face.
“Good afternoon, Ms Steel. I so sorry you had to see that. But can we start with the decorations?” I spoke a few words of politeness and congratulated her before we went through the marriage preparations.
The woodland-inspired centrepiece looked so magical and elegant with a dream-like presentation. The splashed white tablecloth and the soft candlelight with the rustic texture of linen looked so outstanding. And the white lilies and the orchids with few wildflowers and decoration. It looked like the most beautiful decoration I’ve ever imagined. Not that I had any other ideas other than the traditional floral design but this looked a little out of the box… In a good way of course.
“Do you want to change anything in the table arrangements?” I looked at Carolina and shook my head.
“This looks really, good after I saw it in real light.” I touched the panels that were sprinkled around the centrepiece.
“Thank you, Sapphire. Adam told us that you will love the decor but I guess I was just too much nervous about everything being in your liking.” She turned on her MacBook and turned it around so that I can see the screen.
“Please take a look at the theme of the wedding. All the decorations of the church and the reception hotel. We are all set for the wedding and reception. Please do point out if you want changes in the décor.” She moved aside and I looked at the themes as they played in the presentation form.
As Adam’s and mine request, the wedding was arranged in St. Patrick’s Cathedral as there will be over 250 guests at the wedding and I liked it the most. The beauty of the Church just couldn’t get out of my head ever since I saw it.
I wanted to make it permanent so I didn’t think twice and we agreed on my selected Church. Though, Adam did have his piece of cake by selecting the Plaza Hotel.
We kept our guest list short too. Only 475 guests were invited to the reception as we selected only a few of our loyal clients with only our common friends and close acquaintance. Neither Adam nor I had any interest in inviting anyone who has nothing to do with our happiness and we’re just going to come out of responsibility.
Anyways, just like the centrepiece, the church and hotel had the same theme. A unique one with a scent of rawness and love with the purity of nature.
The church was more green than the reception, giving me the idea that my wedding dress is definitely, going to be traditional white. It made me smile as we continued to discuss the plans for the next hour when the cake, Adam finalised, arrived.
Along with few pictures of what it will actually, look like in the reception. Though the pictures were made through graphics as the cake was specially designed for us and but it gave us a perfect idea of how much it will weight or what it will look like.
I took the bight of the cake and moaned unknowingly but quickly covered it into a couch. The fruitcake is the best one I’ve ever had. And according to the picture and international, the cake is going to stand 10 feet tall with all the edible sugar floral decoration.
“This is so delicious, I can eat this a whole day.” I looked up at Barbara and Caroline as they looked at me like I’ve grown a horn, right in the middle of my head.
“You can not eat that all day! You won’t fit in your wedding dress! You know how important it is to maintain your weight during the last month of the wedding!” This time, it was me who looked at the scary-looking Carolina as she panted taking the cake out of my hand and hiding it behind her back.
Did I forget to mention that Carolina is Adam’s cousin, the Daughter of Uncle Ethan’s younger sister, Viola? Yup! And she loves to boss around. But I guess she is being like this due to her early pregnancy…
I shrugged the thought off and looked at her only to find her eating the last bite of the cake.
Did She just eat the whole cake after giving me a good lecture about not having a second bite?
I chuckled at the thought but quickly stuffed it up as she looked at me like I murdered her cat.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I’m eating for two!” She shrugged and dumped the garbage into the dustbin.
“Nothing, nothing at all.” Barbara and I exchanged a look but didn’t dare to laugh. A pregnant woman with a temper... Not a good combo.
“Did you got everything you want for your dream wedding?” Carolina asked as she sat on the chair on the other side of the desk.
“I did! Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You know your brother will love you, no matter who you choose to get married to, right?” She blushed profoundly and looked at Barbara before nodding her head.
“I know, little sister… But I’m yet to achieve my career goals… I can’t do that. I can’t fight with my relatives about my relationship and at the same time deal with my financial crisis. Not to mention we decided ‘baby’ was the best way to tell them that we are married with our firstborn on the way?!” She babbled as I held my hands up in surrender and looked at Barbara for support who gave me a look that screamed- I was hurt but now I'm hurt and angry! Why would you bring this up right now?!!!
“I know it sounds like I’m interfering in your personal, issues but trust me when I say this, life is too short to give you many chances. So take it when you get one.” She looked at me like I just spoke an Arabic phrase.
“Will you please, elaborate?” I chuckled at her pouting face and took her hand in mine as I stood up.
“When love calls, you pick up. They don’t have the service of callback or voicemails…” Carolina nodded her head in understanding and smiled a little.
I collect my purse and coat and picked my phone.
I walked up to Barbara and shook my hand.
“It was nice to meet you, Dear. I hope to see you at my wedding.” She looked at me with a confused look in her eyes and I smiled.
“But… She isn’t invited to the wedding?” Carolina asked but Barbara shook her head and pulled at my hand to show me, not to do this. And as always, I’m a little confident about this so I did the exact opposite.
“But you are very much invited to the wedding as well as the reception, right?” Carolina nodded and I moved my hand out of Barbara’s as I exited the room. Not giving either of them a chance of an argument.
They certainly will have to come forth with this… And what good it will be if they don’t? I can see the hurt in Barbara’s eyes even when it is covered by so many more emotions. Love, compassion, respect, trust, belief, hope! And yet there is sadness.
It will be good if Carolina comes to the wedding with Barbara as her plus one. They have to start from somewhere, right? I shook my head at the thoughts and told the valet to bring my car.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry but no car has been delivered to your name.” I nodded my head and looked at my wristwatch, it has been two hours since I told Lucas to drop another car. Where is he yet?
“It’s okay. Can you Please give this note to anyone who comes with the car for me later?” I wrote to take the car back to the condo as I left already, on my card and passed it to the valet.
“Sure ma’am, will do. Should I stop you a cab?” The man kept the card between his register and nodded at me politely.
“It will be a great help if you can, please do.” The valet smiled and nodded as he held his hand out for the cab. And in less than 10 seconds, my ride was ready.
Uh, probably faster than it would have taken to bring my car out here.
“Thank you, Gary.” I smiled as he opened the door for me and nodded respectfully before closing it.
“Where to miss?” The driver asked as we moved to the road.
“At Black Industries and Co., 331 Park Avi. South.” The middle-aged man at the driving seat nodded with a smile on his lightly wrinkled face.
“Sure, ma’am.” The rest of the ride went on with me checking the emails and the drive humming a song. We reached Adam’s office in nearly half an hour, which meant I’m half an hour early. It was just 7:30 and I was supposed to be here by 8:00. Well, who cares?… I don’t…
After paying the man his rent and thanking him for the ride, I went into the office building, impressed by the outer look of the building design.
I smiled at the interior as soon as I walked in. No doubt, he is as good as people say he is. The office was very elegant yet modern. And I think that is the flirting receptionist, Adam is tired of…
