The Labs

1615 Words
Alex leads me into the underground laboratory. As much as he wanted to protest a deal was a deal and I knew that he kept his promises. I held onto my small bump of a stomach and walk closely to Alex. "It's cold in here." I mutter as I squeeze into his side, "Why the f**k is it so cold in here." I glare at the dirt that was piled in a corner. The corridors were metal, iron. It lead to a door,a steel door that could be opened with a facial and voice recognition. The inside was beautiful. The  pristine and white marble tile-like walls were covered with stats, papers, documents and certificates. The floor itself was a gray type of stone which I was later told was moonstone and normal granite. There were glass windows that held the testing chambers. "It's beautiful, I bet it took a long time to construct." "It did." he says with a faraway expression, "50 years to be exact. My grandfather started the project and when he died, my dad continued it, that's why he wasn't around until I was 10 years old." there was a pang in my heart and I touch his shoulder, "I love you, don't be sad." he smiles at me and says: "I love you too darling." Just then a man greets us. He had a lab coat on like the others in the lab do. He seemed to be in his late 50s. "Good morning Alpha, Luna. Or is it the afternoon? Time does seem to pass faster here." "It is morning Chester, and how is the research going?" "Well, you see Alpha, not much. There is no disease rooted in the corps, nothing in the brain, no mechanical bugs in them either. Although.." Chester trails off nervously, "What is it?" Alex's voice seemed intrigued, "We did find some unusual things in their system, as well as in the blood. There is also a mark on the forearms of every one." "What was it?" I ask, "They had silver in their blood and system, as if they injected themselves, or someone. As for their forearms, there was always a word, a different one but a word all the same." "May I see them?" I ask again, this time, Chester looks at Hunter for permission and he gives a slight nod. Chester leads us deeper into the lab where the bodies were preserved with some fae runes.  "These are marked in the order they were killed right?" Chester nods as confirmation,  "The ones on your left side would be much older than the ones on the right."  I walk over to the very first body and look at her forearm, You. I watch the other bodies and look at their forearms as well. I then combine all the words together, You better watch out. The Queen is coming. I look at Alex in a manner of warning, suddenly, there was a commotion and another body was rushed in, there was blood and dirt all over him. There was writing, in pitch black ink. Watch out Alpha and Luna, your happiness will not last. I am coming, yes, the very same person who destroyed your first love. I am the Queen of Vengeance and I will come for you and destroy everything you love like you did me.  The skin of the corpse was swollen and red, the words had been tattooed on the skin, it was red and angry, the wound was bubbling up. "He was just delivered, our guards were out patrolling the pack borders when they came across him." "He was poisoned, you can tell by the blood, its bubbling. It wasn't normal mortal poison. This is from one of main vampire vaults. Very rarely, humans who are favored by us will receive a vial and it'll stay in their family." They all look at me and Alex speaks up, "Do you know what the poison is made out of?" "Of course, every royal does. The blood of the hydra, the blood of a centaur, rattlesnake venom, viper venom, the essence of Night herself, blood of the giants. If you combine them, despite their colors, they turn a type of purple." I point to the dress I was wearing which was indigo but slightly more purple. "The symptoms, I assume would be the boiling of blood?" Chester asks curiously,  "That's one. There are also burns along the skin if you get it on the skin which results in boils and blisters. You will get delirious, if it is taken orally,  you only have an hour at most to try and cure it although there is only one antidote and only the Amber family line knows it." I pause taking another breath before continuing, "It will become increasingly painful up until you can barely move and your insides feel as if they are being boiled, they are. If it comes into contact with your skin, as I have said before, it does create burn, boils, and blisters. Your skin will feel like you are on fire, it's true, not visible fire but a type of hellfire. You don't happen to have a library do you?" "We do."  With that, Chester leads Alex and I into a library full of books. The guards had decided to leave. I mentally scan all the books here and use the speed to take all the books I needed. "Here. Hellfire. There are some that are visible, ranging from all types of heat, but what we want is this one. The one that comes with the essence of Night, it is not something for anyone who isn't immortal or a god. It creates burn that leave you alive and scarred, although it makes you wish you were dead." "Then what kills you?" "The centaur blood, the hydra blood. As the Greeks state, it was centaur blood which was Hercules' doom. Some commit their own deaths because of the pain." I flip open another book. "The Poison of Times. It's one of the royals' weapons of choice, it is more popular in my clan, or kingdom. The antidote is very scarce, so are the ingredients which is why we have sworn not to use it except in extreme cases. It doesn't affect those with royal vampire blood in them so naturally, the Amber line, Giovanni line and Fernando line are safe." "So, quick question, who was the Queen of Vengeance since you seemed to tense up at that." Alex asks me gently, "She was one of the most merciless Queens of all of our history." I take another book from a nearby shelf and flip it over to her page. She had a fierce expression on her face. Half of her hair was pitch black, the other half was blood red. It was in an elaborate hairstyle on her head. Around it was a crown of thorns with blood red rubies dripping from it, making it look, alarmingly, like blood. I clutch my stomach,  "Her real name was Cassanova Giovanni, she was the one ruling before my family came and 'put her down'. She was basically known for taking down those who wronged her in the most gruesome ways you can imagine, hence the name Queen of Vengeance." "But if she was killed by your line, how is she still alive?" Poor Chester, he looked so confused and lost, I wince. "She isn't. Her heart was staked, her head sliced off and her remains burned. No vampire can survive that, no matter how powerful. Besides, I've seen this new Queen of Vengeance's face, at least I think so, she isn't the same. My guess? She's a poser, someone wanting to be Cassanova." "So, if she got the poison somehow," Alex starts, "And she loves Cassanova." Chester continues, "It would be safe to assume that this new 'Queen' was favored by the Giovanni family? After all, who knew about this?" "Cassanova was known by all vampires in history, but, she faded away with time, only my line, the Giovanni line and the Fernando line remember it now. It's a miracle that this book is in the library. My line would rather bury Cassanova into the dirt all over again then let history repeat itself, Fernando line may be cruel but they would rather be the ones who rule, not a poser queen." Silence filled the air, a woman in a lab coat pokes her head in and smiles before saying, "The autopsy room is ready for you Alpha." her gaze turns a bit cold when she looks at me, seems like these people don't like me either. "Well. That was an interesting history lesson, thank you very much Queen Serenity. Let's move on shall we?" Chester asks, straightening his white coat and leading us out the library. We come into a room where the newest body, from yesterday, was. He was dead, yet he was chained up with silver onto the wall.  "There have been dead ones which continue moving, attacking after death for an hour at most. This is simply a precaution." The woman says, addressing Alex and ignoring me. Chester hands me a lab coat to put over my dress, he gives me latex gloves as well. "Be careful darling, I don't want you to go to far off the edge, don't strain yourself." "I won't my sweet." I turn to the body and take careful steps, let's get this over with. Suddenly, he comes to life, his eyes only black, the purest black form that I've ever seen in my cursed life. He did something I didn't expect. He lunges at me. ~-~-~ A/N ~-~-~ Hellooo my dear readers, I hope you did enjoy this chapter, I apologize for making you wait for so long, I have finally overcome my writers' block for this chapter thanks to a book I've read yesterday.  Also, forgot to mention, this poison thing is made up, mostly, nothing from mythology, just wanted to let you guys know.
