Vera My last class ended early, and I'm cutting through the quad on my way back to the dorm. It may snow today; the wind cuts through my jacket like it's not even there. I see Jenna standing near the old oak tree at the edge of the quad. She's talking to a woman with hair pulled back in a severe ponytail. Even from here, I can see how completely out of place she looks on a public university campus. It's the lady I almost bumped into outside Drake's apartment. The one who looked at me like I was garbage on the bottom of her shoe. My pace, which had quickened toward Jenna, slows as my heart hammers against my ribs. I duck behind a tree before they see me. Jenna is talking to her, leaning in close like they're sharing secrets. Secrets about me? The woman turns and walks away, disappear
