Adrian's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in the surroundings. I was in a small, cozy room with cream-colored walls and a high ceiling. I looked down at my body, wincing as I remembered the attack by the beast. But to my surprise, the wounds were almost completely healed. I gingerly touched the places where I had been struck, marveling at the rapid recovery.
Just as I was starting to sit up, the door creaked open and a woman walked in. She was tall and slender, with long, curly brown hair and piercing green eyes. My instincts immediately went on high alert, but I tried to relax, reminding himself that he was probably safe.
"Good morning," the woman said with a warm smile. "How are you feeling today?"
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Where am I?" I asked instead, trying to sound calm.
The woman's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered. "You're in the Healers' quarters of the Redwood pack territory," she said. "You've been here for a few days, recovering from your injuries."
My mind raced with questions, Redwood pack territory? Where on earth is that? but I focused on the most important one. "Where's Seth?" I asked, my voice was a little sharper than I intended.
The woman's expression softened. "Don't worry, your brother is fine. He's been taken care of. Let me just go inform him that you're awake." She turned to leave, but I called out to her.
"Wait, what's your name?" I asked, but the woman was already out the door.
A moment later, the door creaked open again, and Seth limped in, a wide smile on his face. "Adrian!" he exclaimed, relief written all over his face. "You're awake!"
My eyes narrowed, taking in Seth's injured ankle. "What happened to you?" I asked with concern etched on my face.
Seth waved his hand dismissively. "Just a sprained ankle. I'm fine. How about you? How are you feeling?"
My gaze locked onto Seth's, eyes searching for any hidden injuries. "I'm fine, I think," he said slowly. "But what's going on? Where are we?"
Seth's smile faltered, and he glanced at the door before answering. "We're in the Redwood pack territory. That's what I was told, anyway" he said quietly. "The men who rescued us brought us here two days ago. But we're safe now. We're being taken care of."
In an instant, memories came flooding back. I nodded, as my mind raced with questions, but before I could ask any, the woman returned, a warm smile on her face.
"I'm Healer Elena, by the way," she said, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'll let you two catch up, but I need to inform the Alpha that you're awake. He gave instructions to be notified immediately. Just be careful not to exert yourself too much, Adrian. You still need time to recover."
As Elena mentioned the Alpha, my mind briefly wondered who that was, but my thoughts were quickly overshadowed by the relief of seeing Seth safe and sound.
It was as if he hadn't seen my brother in years, and the emotions that flooded my chest were overwhelming.
Reaching out, Seth took my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. We sat in silence for a moment, just enjoying each other's company.
About an hour later, the door creaked open again, and Elena walked in, followed by a tall, imposing man with piercing blue eyes. My gaze locked onto the man's face, and suddenly, memories came flooding back. This was the man who had led the group that saved us from the beast.
The man stepped forward, his eyes fixed on me. "Ah, it's good to see you're awake," he said, his deep voice warm and reassuring. "You may leave us, Elena."
Elena nodded and curtsied slightly, "Yes My lord. I'll leave you two to talk."bShe turned to me and added, "I'll check on you later. Remember to rest and not exert yourself too much."
The man nodded, and Elena left, closing the door behind her. The man's gaze returned to me, and he asked, "How are you feeling, lad? Are you recovering well?"
My eyes met the man's, and I felt a surge of gratitude. "Thank you," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "Thank you for saving us. I owe you my life, and my brother's."
The man gazed at me, and he smiled warmly. "I am Callister Redwood, the Alpha of the Redwood pack,"vhe said, his voice commanding yet gentle. "You and your brother are safe now. You're under our protection."
My eyes widened slightly at the mention of the Alpha's name, and my tension eased. "Thank you, Alpha Callister ,"vI repeated, with genuine gratitude. "We owe you a great debt."
Alpha Callister waved his hand dismissively. "You owe us nothing, Adrian. We simply did what was necessary to protect our kind."
Alpha Callister's expression turned thoughtful. "Now that you're safe, I have to ask: where are your parents?
My eyes dropped, and my voice softened. "They're...dead. Our parents passed away a few years ago."
Alpha Callister's face softened in sympathy. "I'm sorry to hear that. However, It's not safe for our kind to be alone out there, especially not in these times. I want to offer you and your brother a place within our territory. You can live among us, under our protection."
His words deepened confusion. "Our kind?" I repeated, unsure what Alpha Callister meant.
But before I could ask, Alpha Callister continued, "I'll have my subordinates prepare a place for you to stay. You can settle in and get accustomed to our ways."
Alpha Callister approached the door, his hand reaching for the handle.
"Wait!" I said, my voice stopping Alpha Callister. "What did you mean by 'our kind'?"
Alpha Callister turned back, his eyes piercing. "Werewolves, lad. I meant werewolves."You must have undergone your first transformation the other time," he added
My eyes widened in shock.
"By the way, I forgot to ask, what's your name?"
"Adrian," I answered.
Alpha Callister added, "your full name?"
"Adrian Osbourne," I replied.
Alpha Callister's expression changed, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. "Osbourne?" he repeated. "Per chance, was your father Alex Osbourne?"
Hesitant, I nodded, unsure why my father's name seemed to hold such significance.
Alpha Callister's eyes narrowed, his gaze intense. "I knew your father," he said, his voice low. "We...had history."A mix of emotions danced across his face – shock, curiosity, and something almost like caution.
My curiosity was piqued. What did Alpha Callister mean by "history?" What secrets had my father kept hidden?
Narrowing my eyes, a spark of wariness ignited within me. "You knew my father?" I repeated, my tone cautious.
Alpha Callister's gaze held a depth that made me uneasy. "Yes, Alex Osbourne was...a complicated man," he said, his words measured.
My mind reeled. How did this stranger know my father? What did he mean by "complicated"? The questions swirled, but before I could ask, Seth spoke up.
"Who was our father to you?" Seth asked, I'llhis voice low and guarded.
Alpha Callister's eyes shifted to Seth, his expression unreadable. "That's a story for another time," he said. "For now, let's focus on getting you two settled and safe."
My instincts screamed that there was more to Alpha Callister's words, but I couldn't quite grasp what.
"Safe from what?" I pressed, my curiosity getting the better of me.
Alpha Callister's eyes darkened. "The Heiviles, for starters. They're not the only threat to our kind out there, but they're a significant one. You'll learn more about our world soon enough."
My thoughts spun, overwhelmed by the revelation. Werewolves, Heivile, and a mysterious connection to my father – the world was expanding faster than I could keep up.
"What's going on?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Alpha Callister's expression softened. "You'll learn everything in due time, Adrian. For now, trust that you're under my protection."
Alpha Callister's words hung in the air, offering little reassurance. My mind raced with questions, but before I could ask more, the Alpha Callister turned to leave. As he reached the door, he paused. "I'll send someone to escort you to your quarters by morning."
The door slid open, and Alpha Callister stepped out, leaving Seth and I in stunned silence.
Seth's gaze drifted to me, who looked equally bewildered. "What just happened?" Seth whispered.
I shook my head. "I have no idea, but I think our lives just got a lot more complicated."
Seth's eyes widened. "The Heivile? Werewolves? What does it all mean?"
My thoughts swirled, trying to connect the dots. Our father's mysterious past, Alpha Callister's knowing gaze, and the looming threat of the Heivile – it was too much to process.
As the door slid shut, I felt the weight of our new reality settling in. I looked at Seth, and we shared a concerned glance.
"What have we gotten ourselves into?" I wondered aloud.
The room seemed to shrink, the shadows cast by the flickering candles growing longer and darker. My instincts screamed that our world had forever changed.
