Chapter 3 (Meeting Tony)
*************************************
"In Christ alone, my hope is found"
"He's my light, my strength, my song"
"This cornerstone, this solid ground"
"Firm through the fiercest drought and stone"
Tears streamed down my face as I sang this song.
"Yes! The only strength I had left in me is God" I wiped off my tears with the back of my palm.
I arranged my clothes, the apartment was really nice and it's also close to my place of work, I guess I had finally conquered lateness.
I freshened up and took a much-needed nap, I had to sleep and forget all I had been through, If only my brain was a computer, I could just delete the unwanted files. But No! I am human unable to erase my memory unless I had dementia (God forbid)
I tried calling Esther but she wasn't picking up her phone. Perhaps she was busy with Femi.
*************
As night gave way to dawn
I woke up and prepared myself for work, not having to rush anymore as my new apartment was conveniently located near my workplace.
I arrived at the office and I saw Mr. Kunle staring at me with wide eyes
Lol
" Mr. Kunle, good morning you aren't seeing a ghost" I teased.
" Go....od...morn....ing....ma'...am" he stammered
I smiled and walled to my office while Mr. Kunle was still standing like a statue
Mr. Kunle is one of the security officers in the company,a well advanced man.
"Thank you Jesus" I whispered as I sat on my seat
Moments later, I heard the voice of Mr. Kunle as he stopped a man from entering the premises.
"Oga you go wait till 9' O clock" he shouted
I rushed outside to see what was happening for myself. To my surprise, I found a tall, dark-skinned man of sturdy build standing calmly before Mr. Kunle.
Yes! I said calmly because he was unfazed by Mr. Kunle shouting.
I instructed Mr. Kunle to let the young man inside. He complied, and the man gratefully entered the building
"Thank you ma'am" he said in relief
He entered and made his complaint, claiming he'd been scammed by one of our marketers.
"Scammed?" I asked incredulously
"Yes, ma'am,' he said, his expression somber. 'I ordered goods worth 1.4 million naira, but after I made the payment, they blocked me.'
He presented me with what appeared to be valid proof, and my heart went out to him. I handed him a form to fill out, determined to get to the bottom of this.”
I glanced through the form he'd filled out and called out to him
"Mr. Tony" I said and he quickly responded
"Yes! Ma'am, Tony Olabode"
"Please don't worry Mr. Tony. We'll investigate this matter thoroughly and do everything we can to make this right". I assured him, a warmth in my tone.
"Thank you ma'am" he replied bowing his head
"I'll personally make sure to call you" I affirmed
Tony left and I immediately headed to Mr. Adewale's office to bring this matter to his attention.
"Good morning Sir" I greeted him
“'Good morning, Sandra!' he answered cheerfully. 'You're here quite early today. Did you sleep in the office yesterday?' he quipped with a teasing grin.
“'Oh no, sir,' I assured him, smiling. 'I moved into an apartment close to work, so my mornings are much less hectic now.'
He nodded in understanding, then continued, 'Sandra, I trust you to handle this matter. You have a keen eye for detail, and I know you’ll do everything you can to make this right" won't you?
"I ...wi..ll" I stammered and left his office
After the close of work I went to Esther's place to catch up with her. But to my disappointment she wasn't home.
"What a waste of fuel" I mumbled as I left her place
It was past 9pm when my phone rang
I picked it up and saw a strange number on the screen
'hello' I answered after a quick cough to clear my throat.
'What!....' I exclaimed, my voice raising in surprise as I sat up on my bed.
