CHAPTER 13 (LINES)
I thanked God for another new day and prepared myself for work. Now, more than ever, I needed to focus on my career, with Tony still struggling to recover.
I sorted through necessary files, but my thoughts kept drifting back to last night. I felt my energy draining.
I picked up my phone and called Tony but he refused to pick up. Maybe he was still upset about last night. I left work and went straight to his supermarket, his sales rep greeted me,I answered them and marched to his office, only to be startled by Tony standing right in front of the door.
‘Babe...’ I greeted him as I walked in
"I saw your car from the window" he replied with a smile. "How was work?"
“Fine, fine" I giggled, sinking into a chair.
Tony sat on the table, facing me with a hand on his lap and the other resting on top of it.
“I’m surprised you’re here today" he said in a sweet voice. "What can I offer my lovely wife?"
"What can I offer my wife?" I mockingly repeated "And you’re still sitting down" I added with a raised eyebrow.
“Oh! My bad!" He said as he stood up and walked over to the refrigerator. He brought out a cold drink, setting it down on the table.
“Now you’re talking" I chuckled as I opened the drink and he sat down but this time, he sat on a chair, sinking into it as he kept his eyes on me.
"So you can slap me like you did yesterday, huh, Mama Godwin?" he teased with a smile.
I choked on my drink, guilt washing over me.
"Oh! I’m so sorry, my love. I didn’t even realize I did it!"
“Maybe you need to attend slapping classes because your hands are too soft for that" He said with a smirk.
“Tony..." I chuckled. "In all seriousness though, I’m truly sorry. And I’m fine with Linda staying for as long as she needs. Are you feeling better now?" I asked, trying to gauge his mood.
I couldn’t bear to lose my marriage over this. I needed to keep Tony happy, I couldn’t let Linda be the reason I lost my happy life.
“Are you sure?" he asked, his expression tinged with disbelief and I nodded.
Tony stood up and planted a kiss on my lips. His smoldering gaze sent heat rushing to my cheeks, and we were pulled into each other’s embrace like magnets. Our lips locked in a passionate kiss.
Just then, a knock on the door startled us.
"Come in" Tony called out.
The sales rep entered, handing a paper to Tony and greeted me. "Good evening, ma."
"Good evening" I replied, and Tony echoed my response. We turned to look at each other, and the boy left smiling.
Tony c****d his head to the side and grinned. "Where did we stop?" he asked in a filthy voice.
He stood up, walked to the door, and locked it. Turning back to me with a playful smirk, he repeated, "Where did we stop?"
“What are you trying to do, babe?" I laughed.
“I just want to be entwined with the mother of my child" Tony replied, his voice laced with warmth while unlocking his trouser.
His words filled me with joy. Tony had a way of making things right, even after a fight. I laughed, pulling him closer. "You are so shameless."
When we got home, I spotted Linda with my son in the sitting room.
"Ehhh, papa!" I exclaimed, rushing over to play with him. I took my son from her.
"Good evening, ma. Good evening, sir." Linda greeted us.
"How are you Linda" Tony responded
I was lost in my baby’s adorable face, so I didn’t respond.
“Have you guys eaten?" I asked Linda.
“Yes, ma. I just finished feeding him before you arrived."
Tony collapsed onto the couch, his eyes still on Linda. "And you? Have you eaten?" he inquired.
"Yes, sir, I have" Linda replied with a smile.
Tony’s friendly attitude towards Linda was still a puzzle to me, but I was glad he finally acknowledged her existence. After all, she is now part of the family.
I took my baby to our room, leaving them to chat.
"Babe, I’ll be in the bedroom" I said and left.
I sat on the edge of the bed, my heart thumping. Linda’s laughter rang through the house, louder and more carefree than I’d ever heard it before.
What were they talking about? I pondered.
I gently laid my son on the bed and tip-toed down the stairs, curiosity getting the better of me.
I craned my neck around the corner, and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest at what I saw.
