Sandys Point of View
I stretched from being exhausted but I didn't feel the least bothered, I felt fulfilling kind of and my insides felt warm as it usually gets after a successful emergency. I was not on this team and it was my day off but I didn't mind being of help, I heard earlier that the newbie whose place I took to assist suddenly felt carsick and was unable to be of help.
At least I could go home now I thought happily, Amanda flashed through my mind and I made a mental note to apologize to her later on for bailing out on her suddenly earlier.
I made to call her when I heard the emergency alarm calling for emergency dispatch again and I ran along.
Amanda's point of view
I dragged my luggage sluggishly along the part that led to the house, I had been thinking of a million and one ways to avoided the loom that lays ahead.in the midst of all these Carlos was unbelievably annoying beside me, I didn't have the strength to put up with him right now and did not hide it.
I guess he got more cocky the more I stayed back at the U.S
I glared at him saying “can you please go on our own path?”
“Someone forgot the same path leads to our home and our parents live next to each other” he replied obviously pleased at himself
“Then can you stop following me?” I said with feeling
“Well, it is you that is following me”
“Alright it is noisy with you around, can you keep a distance and stop talking for God sake”
“Well you asked me a question” He answered raising his eye. “ You can take another route though” he suggested
“You do that, this is the quickest” I fired back
I sighted an element across the road and an idea formed in my mind
“Carlos, do you happen to know of a place where helmet are sold ?” i asked quickly
He looked at me like he didn't recognize me anymore, he probably thought I was not serious.
“I'm not playing around, I'm dead serious”
I explained further “ i need it to protect me from mom's wrath, she definitely would not be able to c***k my head open with an helmet on right”
He shook his head “Girl, you came back crazier than before you left, where is the princess Aunt Amy brags about at every opportunity?” He asked eyeing me.
Even if there was, can you not see it's kinda late and we won't find anywhere open right now”
“Let's just go, stop running from your problems, that would not get them solved you know? It would only worsen and increase your mum's wrath, the least you can do is come clean and do it quick, I'm sure she will come to” He advised with all seriousness.
I hated to admit it, but he was right and by now we were at the entrance to each other's building.
“I really screwed up Carlos, I came home to tell it to mum and now I can not even face her” I revealed to him
“Tell me what it is , what did you do?” he demanded
I looked down tearfully, when i did not reply, he continued
“I need to know in order to decide if I will help you or not though”
“Well, i called it off” I replied quietly looking away.
“What?” He enquired not understanding
“I mean , I called it quit and I'm not getting married anymore” I said still in a low tone.
“Speak up will you, I can barely make up a thing”. He was beginning to get irritated.
“I said I broke off my engagement” I shouted pissed but glad I finally let it out.
He had a shocked expression at first, then he looked like he saw a ghost behind me.
I was wondering why he looked that way, was he so shocked by my revelation? if he reacted like this, how would mom take it?
Mom might pass out from the shock after she hears it.
“Aunt Amy” he called out
“Hey, you cannot fool me twice with your tricks and gimmick” I smiled but his expression said otherwise and I made to turn back when I heard a familiar voice asked behind me
“What did you just say?”
I stood still, it was really moms voice
I turned back and was face to face with Mom, Dad and Alex and Carlos mum.
“Tell me, what did you just say” She asked again
“Erhm mom” I stammered
“I must have heard it wrong” she said to no one in particular and looked towards Dad who was obviously shocked too
“Right Dave?” Dad nodded in response in a robotic manner.
I suddenly squealed happily
“Mom, how have you been? You must be so shocked to see me right? You are still as beautiful as ever.
“I got confused with the way home and wandered around for a while before getting Carlos here to help me out”
“Right Carlos” I spoke hurriedly looking at him for confirmation and he nodded in too.
Her expression did not change and I decided to continue
“The reason I am back home is to tell you that,Yes! To tell you I broke off my engagement” I finally let it out without hesitation.
Carlos’s mom exclaimed “oh my God!” and held Alex for support while Dad struggled to say on his feet as he covered his mouth with his hand.
But mom's reaction superseded my Wildest Imagination.
