The incident in the hallway left Michael shaken. He couldn't believe he'd managed to dodge the ball without even thinking about it. As he walked to his next class, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something strange had happened.
When the bell rang, signaling the end of the period, Michael gathered his belongings and headed to his locker. He was lost in thought, replaying the events in the hallway.
As he approached his locker, he saw Jake standing by it, looking furious. "You think you're so lucky, don't you?" Jake sneered. "Well, let's see how lucky you are when I'm done with you."
Michael felt a surge of fear, but he stood his ground. "I'm not looking for trouble, Jake," he said calmly. Jake's expression twisted into a snarl, but before he could react, the principal's voice echoed through the hallway.
"Jake, Michael, my office. Now."
Michael felt a mix of relief and apprehension as he followed Jake to the principal's office. He knew he was in for a lecture, but at least he'd be safe from Jake's aggression for a little while.
As they sat down in the principal's office, Michael couldn't help but notice the stern expression on Principal Smith's face. "What happened in the hallway, boys?" she asked, her voice firm but controlled.
Jake spoke up first, spinning a tale of Michael's supposed aggression. Michael listened in stunned silence, feeling his anger rise. When Jake finished, Michael took his turn, explaining how Jake had started the confrontation.
The principal listened attentively, her expression growing more serious by the minute. When both boys finished, she leaned back in her chair and steepled her fingers.
"I've heard enough. Jake, you're suspended for three days. Michael, you're not to engage with Jake in any way. Do I make myself clear?"
Michael nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. Maybe, just maybe, he'd be able to avoid Jake's aggression for a little while longer.
