Chapter 16

Elena raised her head, her face smeared with blood as she screamed, eyes red and swollen: “She’s just a child… She’s your own niece!” Diana stopped, tilting her head to study Elena as though she were a broken toy. Her voice was even but cut into the heart like a blade: “Niece? Elena, don’t be so naïve. Blood ties in this house have never come free. You should have known that the day you chose to marry a cast‑off Wolf of the Lãng family.” “I… I loved him.” Elena whispered hoarsely, her lips splitting and bleeding from how tightly she bit them. “I don’t need your acceptance… I’m only begging for my daughter back…” “Love?” Diana let out a laugh, a screech like fingernails scraping glass. “You’re no longer the genius Omega, Elena. You’ve turned yourself into a worthless thing. You should have thought of that before bearing the child of a piece of trash.” “She is not trash!…” Elena hissed, crawling forward to clutch the hem of Diana’s trousers. “Whatever you want, I’ll give it! I’ll sign over the shares! Please, just stop…” Diana pulled her leg free and drove her heel into Elena’s chest, knocking her flat to the floor. Her voice was ice: “You think I need your signature? The papers are already prepared. All you have to do is leave your fingerprint. Tonight. Right here. Otherwise—” “The only thing left of your daughter will be an empty shell!” “STOP! DON’T DO IT, I BEG YOU!!” Elena screamed until her breath caught, her throat tearing. She hurled herself at the glass pane, pounding until her hands bled. Diana watched without blinking: “The girl carries a mutated gene. She could awaken as a peak Alpha. Perhaps more. A perfect specimen.” Elena fell to her knees, clutching her chest as though she couldn’t breathe: “Stop talking… stop talking…” A slap cracked across Elena’s face — not from Diana but from a guard behind her. Elena toppled back, blood spilling from her mouth. “Keep screaming and we’ve got dozens of ways to shut you up,” the guard snarled, yanking Elena up by the hair. Elena gasped, her voice trembling: “I… I’ll sign… But don’t draw any more blood from her. Please let me see her one last time…” Diana lifted her head, not bothering to answer. Another kick. Elena collapsed onto the floor like a doll with a snapped neck. Diana had hated her for so long, this woman who once outshone her in every way. Now was the time to strike back; seeing Elena in such anguish only delighted her more. At that moment a metallic sound rang out from within. Elena’s head shot up in panic — her daughter was convulsing, limbs jerking in anaphylactic shock. “STOP! DON’T INJECT HER AGAIN! SHE CAN’T TAKE IT!” Elena screamed, clawing at the glass. A lab technician turned, startled: “The specimen isn’t tolerating the high dose. Should we pause?” Diana’s lips curled, her gaze sharp as a knife: “No need. Push it up another 0.5ml. Its mutation is unusual; it won’t die.” Elena turned to stone. Her legs trembled so hard she couldn’t stand. The child writhed on the laboratory table, unable to cry out with her throat clamped shut. Elena screamed again, her voice shredded, pure despair: “Bring me the contract, please!” Diana flicked her hand. “Bring the contract.” A staffer approached, carrying a fingerprint scanner. Elena shook, her hands slick with blood, reaching out her thumb but hesitating. “I just have to sign, right?” she asked between sobs. “You’ll give her back to me, won’t you?” She bit her lip and slowly pressed her bloody thumb to the scanner. Beep. The light turned green. The transfer was complete. The papers were taken away at once, giving her no chance to retract. Diana smiled: “Good girl. You finally learned.” Elena looked up at her, whispering: “Give… her… back to me…” Diana laughed softly: “Give her back? Elena… Giving is an act of kindness. I never promised to be kind.” Elena froze. Her fingers hung in the air. The smile on Diana’s lips stayed, but her eyes were winter: “The girl will remain under observation, at least until her metrics stabilize.” “You promised…” “Yes. And I kept my promise — I let you see her,” Diana leaned in, murmuring: “Don’t dream of taking her from here. A tattered Omega like you has no right to raise a child with elite genes. Even if you birthed her, she isn’t yours.” Elena trembled, eyes widening, voice breaking: “You can’t…” “Oh, I can.” Diana straightened without another glance. “Keep her well. ‘Serve’ her properly.” Then she turned and walked away as though she had just closed a real‑estate deal without a flicker of emotion. The door slammed behind her. Elena screamed: “I SIGNED! GIVE ME MY DAUGHTER! I SIGNED ALREADY!!!” Her cries rang shrill, echoing off the cold white walls, but no one answered. Instead, several men in protective suits stepped forward, faces blank as machines. “She’s not very obedient. Teach her a little lesson.” Elena thrashed, but her wrists were bound; all she could do was kick, shake her head, scream until her voice broke. A thunderous slap struck her cheek, leaving half her face blazing red, blood spilling from the corner of her mouth. “Please… don’t hit… don’t… my child…” A punch drove into her stomach. Elena doubled over, vomiting blood and bile. “You think signing means you can bargain? Who do you think you are?” “Elena, huh… think a rich family name makes you special?” “You’re nothing now. The shares are gone; you’re no better than a stray dog. A bitch.” The man who had beaten her paused, sniffed: “Pretty though. Shame not to try her once. Miss Diana said we could ‘serve’ her.” He bent down, tugging at her clothes. Elena writhed, screaming hoarsely: “NO! DON’T! I BEG YOU… DON’T…” She clawed, bit, kicked, but they pinned her down. Her eyes were wide with despair, an animal cornered. The door of the room… stayed shut. No one came to save her. No one heard. No one cared.
