Alexander Jordan sat across from me at my favorite table at TAO, her legs crossed and her eyes focused solely on the menu. Ever since I surprised her in her office, she'd barely been able to look at me. I caught her stealing little glimpses, but she always immediately looked away. Why was she avoiding my gaze? I could sense her fear, which frustrated me. A mate wasn't supposed to evoke fear; she should feel at ease in my presence.
