Chapter 10

An update!

That was quicker than I thought. But the quicker the better it is no?

Disclaimer: Don't own anything. The main character and the twist in the plot, belongs to Shiranai Atsune. (Sorry for that, shiranai. I only meant the linking events not the whole story.)

It was a strange coincidence. Staring at Subaru's eyes triggered my memory-seeing ability automatically. And I didn't see any memory, I saw something that kept me from doing one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

My eyes widened when I realized what was happening. I cursed under my breath seeing how bad the timing was. After the surrounding environment began to appear slowly, I sighed and took a deep breath to calm myself. Looking around, I saw that I was in a slightly dark room. In front of me, I could see the young Subaru and his mother. This time, I could hear them too.

"Subaru, take this... use it to kill me if I go crazy again..." the silver-haired mother said handing something to the boy. My jaw dropped when I saw that it was the same knife that Subaru gave me to kill him with. (Wait! Is this-)

"No... I can't do it..." little Subaru didn't take the knife and looked at his mother with tears in his eyes.

"Why? Don't you love me, Subaru?" The mother asked.

"I do but..."

"Then take it... you should know that for us vampires, killing the other is a declare of enteral love..." she said giving a weak smile. I didn't know why but she seemed like she went through a lot.

Subaru was about to reply but then he didn't say a word. Instead, he looked down and took the knife.

The mother could see how sad her son was. "Don't be sad Subaru... even if I die... you know I'll always be with you right?" She said planting a gentle kiss on his forehead. "And we both know that it'll be better if I die..."

After hearing that, Subaru opened his mouth to say something. I leaned closer to hear him but then I found myself looking at the real Subaru again. My hand was dangerously near his chest as I was still holding the knife. When I saw that, I quickly backed off and sat straight again.

I didn't know what to say. All what was on my mind was why did I see that memory just at that time.

My thoughts was interrupted by Subaru's voice: "So you can't do it?" I looked at him. "I saw that coming though... But I'm surprised that you did try to kill me. It's a first. Maybe I shouldn't take you lightly after all..." he said smirking.

I looked at him. Sadness enveloped my heart. The knife was meant to kill his mother, so why did he give to me to kill him? (Does he feel guilty? Did he kill her and he wanted somebody to kill him to free him from pain? Or maybe he wants someone to love him by killing him? Maybe he was purely trying to help me?) there were so many options to chose from. I was so confused. "Hey, what's wrong?" He said and I realized that I had to say something.

"Why did you tell me to do this?" I asked.

His eyes widened. "Before I answer that... tell me why the hell did you stop. You had the chance to get rid of me and go back to wherever you came from!" He said after a small amount of time.

A small smile formed on my lips. "Go back where?" I asked. He looked confused at first but then his face returned serious again. (He remembered...) "Besides, you say it like it's easy to kill you and run without the your brothers smelling your blood and coming here. And then who knows... maybe they would let me kill them too... or kill me instead..." I said looking at the knife in my hands.

"Ah? So you did think about this..."

"Of course. I also made a promise to someone... that I would change something before I go... that I would try to understand things first before judging and making mistakes. I still didn't fulfill that promise so I can't run away yet." I looked at him again. "I answered your question. Now it's your turn."

He narrowed his eyes. "It's not just you. I told several girls to take the knife and stab me with it before. You were the closest one to do it. The others all either got scared or stared at me like idiots..." he said. "And you don't need a reason to kill a monster do you?" His face was thoughtful again as he finished.

We both went silent after he said that.

I smiled again and finally spoke: "You see Subaru... when I was younger, I lost someone that I truly loved. That's why I spent my whole life separating myself from others fearing that if I had a close one, I would feel the pain of losing them again. That's until I came here. I now wonder if I do have someone out there who's afraid to lose me." He looked at me. "Do you have someone like that, Subaru?" I asked. He didn't say anything but I got the answer anyway. "So you do have one... lucky you Subaru... and you still want to die?"

"How the f**k am I lucky? You don't know shit..." he mumbled.

I chuckled. "True. I don't know anything about what you been through. But having that someone is enough to make me envious you know? If you were in my place you'd think the same believe me." I then remembered that I was still holding the knife. "Here...this is important right?" I said returning the knife.

"I don't even know if she still thinks that way or not..." he said taking the knife.

(Still...) I felt relived after knowing that he didn't kill his mother after all. That's why I leaned and kissed him on his forehead, reminding him of her. "I'm sure she does..." I said quietly.

Subaru was eye-widened when I left him. I ran quickly avoiding his loud protests and headed back to my room. I leaned on a wall taking another deep breath. I learned a lot in those few minutes that I spent with Subaru. His mother clearly did a thing or two that made Subaru unsure of what to think of her. And it was probably related to her saying that she'll go crazy and the first memory that I saw of them. She too, felt guilty of herself and decided that it'll be better if she was dead. All what was left for me to know was the reason for her to be that unstable. I also wanted to make sure if she was the reason behind Subaru being violent or not.

"That was splendid, b***h-chan!" I jumped hearing a voice behind me.

"L-Laito? What are you-"

"Surprised? I saw everything~" he said grinning. "Didn't know you were that bold, b***h-chan~"

I gritted my teeth. (He's making fun of me again!) "Did you like the show then, Laito?!" I said irritated.

"Yep. I just hoped that you gave him a real kiss~" he said winking.

(Real kiss? Kiss...?) I thought. It didn't take seconds for me to realize the truth. (I JUST KISSED SUBARU!) I screamed in my head as my face was getting hotter.

"b***h-chan? Don't tell me... you just realized..." Laito said and paused before releasing an enormous giggle that shook the entire room. "AHAHAHAHA! b***h-chan! You..."

"Stop making fun of me!" I said pulling a pillow from my bed and threw it at him. My face was fully red from embarrassment.

He easily dodged the pillow and continued laughing. "Your face... is priceless... I didn't meet someone this entertaining as you before..." he finally said after calming down and wiped the tears that formed in his eyes from laughing.

I threw another pillow. "If you're that happy, why don't you just leave me alone?!" I yelled at him.

He dodged that too. "I will, I will... I had laughed enough for today." He said opening the door. "And by the way, b***h-chan... did you see the little gift that I gave you?" Laito asked.

"Little gift...?" I said confusedly.

"Seems like you didn't. Then I'll be looking forward to see your face when you find out~" He said finally leaving me alone.

When I made sure that he wasn't around anymore, I quickly began to check my memory and myself for any 'little gifts' that he left.

That's when I found a red mark on my left thigh near my knee. (No-)

"NoooOOOooo!" I fell on my knees after screaming. Seconds later, Laito's evil laughter was heard. I fell into frustration and dug my face into my palms to hide my burning face.

After some minutes of pure embarrassment, I came up with one conclusion: I must have my revenge on Laito. And for that, I needed a little help from a certain prank lover...

"So, you want to pay back that pervert for what he's done? And you're asking yours truly for help?" Ayato said eating another takoyaki from the plate. "I'll help you, just because you chose the perfect thing to bribe me with..." he said smirking. I smiled praising myself in mind for choosing to make takoyaki as a bribe. "So, do you have any ideas?" He asked looking at me.

"No... I came here since Yui told me that you're the best in coming up with pranks and stuff..." I replied.

That fed more of his ego and he smirked more. "Chichinashi told you that? It can't be helped then..." he raised his chin up. I barely held myself from rolling my eyes. "Name anything... anything that goes to mind, and I'll come up with a use for it!" He said proudly.

I blinked several times before I finally answered. "Red pepper... powder?" I said as it was the first thing that came up on my mind.

Ayato's smirk turned into a devilish smile. "Red pepper from the first go?! You're brutal aren't you! Fine! Here's what you have to do..." Ayato then began telling me his plan.

"No! No no no! You can't be serious! I won't be doing that!" I said waving my hands completely refusing the idea.

"Ha?! Why not! It'll be the perfect lesson for a playboy like him!" Ayato said protesting.

"I know but it's too... embarrassing!" I said as a small blush appeared on my face.

"Well... if you ask me... nothing can be more embarrassing after the whole manor learned about your little time with Subaru last night..." Ayato said grinning.

I froze.

"Ok! That bastard is going DOWN! Let's do it!" I said as a fighting aura enveloped me.

"Haha! This is going to be fun! And I'll see if he dares to call me Darty butt again!" Ayato said getting up. I muffled a laugh on the nickname at the last second.

An hour later, both me and Ayato were waiting near Laito's room for the big impact. The prank was silly and suited for a perverted guy like him. It was putting some red pepper powder in Laito's underwear. My job was to put the powder while Ayato's was to distract Laito while I was doing the job. Everything went perfectly and both of us were dying to see Laito's reaction.

We both weren't disappointed as Laito began screaming loudly. "Aaah! Wha-! It's burning! What's happening! Aaaaah!" Laito's jumps were clearly heard from where we were standing.

Ayato and I couldn't keep our laughter in anymore so we both began laughing like maniacs. Laito heard that so in second he was out looking at us eye widened with only his boxer on. "Ayato and... b***h-chan?!" Laito seemed more surprised to see me. "What did you do?! My crotch is burning!" He said still jumping around.

"How did you like that, Mr. hot pants?!" Ayato mocked his brother. I literally started rolling on the floor after hearing that.

Laito's eyes were slightly tearing up as he began taking on the only cloth on his body. I saw that and quickly averted my eyes before I could see something very... disturbing...

It all ended with me and Ayato taking some punishment from Reiji. But we both didn't care as we got something to laugh on for the next few weeks. Laito was very angry and gave me some nasty glares before I went out of Reiji's office. But that was the last thing on my mind as all what I was thinking about was Subaru...

The silver-haired vampire kept avoiding me every time I look at him, and he turns away with a hint of blush on his cheeks.

I sighed seeing him like that since I solved misunderstanding by creating another ones.

How idiotic can I more be?

And that was it!

How did you like it? I didn't want to go for a kiss so early that's why I made it like that. Sorry if it was a disappointment but I HATE stories where the guy and the girl fall in love from the first go. It sounds really cheesy to me.

Did anyone expect that she'll see a memory to stop her from killing Subaru? And if you noticed, I used the phrase: "biggest mistake of my life", it's like Nami had a feeling that Subaru was the one for her *_^

The memory was from my imagination but the fact that the knife belongs to Subaru's mother is real.

The ( | ) I placed refers to a small skip in time, like a day passing. (Just wanted to try something new.)

Lastly, what did you think about Ayato's and Nami's prank? This too, I watched by chance on tv and I saw that it was supper effective. That's why I thought of trying it here. I myself laughed while writing this, so I wonder if it'll make you laugh too?
