One last chance

Chapter 9

For the previous chapter... Well... Nami thought that Kanato cheated not because he moved, it's because he teleported. For human standards, anyone would call it cheating. At least that's what I thought. ;-_-

For the prank, I found it online on the youtube once. It was about 20 pranks you do to piss someone off. It wasn't my attention to get ideas for pranks from the start so it was a good coincidence. You may think other pranks came from the Internet too. And that's a no, since all of the others pranks are from my beautiful mind. In the undying rose, Sushi-chan99 owns the ideas of a lot of pranks too.

Also, really sorry for the late chapter. My finals ended today so I'm updating the first thing in the morning. I sincerely apologize if I made you wait long.

Even though knowing what Subaru meant hurt me a lot, I still felt a little guilty for calling him a monster. I thought that it was strange of me to think like that since he is a cold vampire and won't be affected just by one word. That's until a saw that look in his eyes: a look full of sorrow and pain. He was gazing upon his feet so he didn't notice me taking a peek to see his face. I also saw a hint of disappointment. And that I didn't know a reason for.

On the other hand, Kanato still gave me glares from time to time. What surprised me was that he didn't do anything to me after that. (Maybe he's plotting something for later...?) I thought avoiding his sharp eyes.

But I got to admit, I wasn't as scared of punishment as I was before. I didn't know if it was due to the repeated assaults I get everyday or if was because of me not caring much about myself anyway. What I was sure of was the feeling that I got while watching Kanato cry and beg me for the water in my hands... I wasn't sure why... but I was actually enjoying it...

All of that was on my mind WITH the thinking of what should I do to finish my mission. It was my plan to observe the brothers first and know more about their memories before I do any action but after seeing the fragments of their past, it wasn't so clear anymore. Their lives sure weren't the happiest ones and from what I could see, their past affected and still affects their present. Kanato's mother was not a good mother nor a faithful wife. And she must've hurt her sons a lot. Still, Kanato still holds dear the gift she gave him: his teddy bear. So he didn't really hate her. In fact, seeing how he loves his teddy bear, he must've loved his mother a lot.

Another mystery that I wasn't close to solve was: where were the mothers? Yui did mention their father before so I tried and asked her about the mothers once. It ended up with her avoiding the question and asking about what Ayato thought of my boobs. I was stunned with the question and taken aback. I was about to ask her what kind of question is that when I actually remembered that Ayato said once: They're good, but not enough for ore-sama.

I face palmed when I found out the truth.

(Maybe she wanted me to know about them by myself?) I sat thinking while sitting crossed legged on the sofa. It was a peaceful night, unusually. A small smile appeared on my lips thinking that I might sleep well and tight that night.

And of course, I was wrong.

"b***h-chan~" I needn't to turn around to recognize that tone. It was Laito.

"..." I didn't say anything. Instead, I looked at him bored trying to give him the hint of how disturbed I was.

"Mmm! Don't give me that look~" he made a sad face and turned. In seconds his eyes were bright again with a smirk on his face. "Maybe... you actually were bored waiting for me to come to you?"

I wanted to face palm again. I really wanted to. I also wanted to shove him away and run for my life. But that was a good chance for me to know about his past so I didn't do anything. In moments, I was staring at his emerald eyes deeply, hoping that he won't get the wrong idea. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I saw myself inside a cell. My eyes darted around fearing that one of them did actually lock me up down there! I stopped when I saw someone next to me, it was Laito, and he wasn't that small unlike the others. His eyes were focused on something in front of him so I looked where he was looking. There she was, that purple haired woman again, kissing a DIFFERENT guy in front of her own son, again.

My disgust wasn't stopped there as she said something about breaking up to Laito. At first I didn't quite get it, but one look at Laito's face told it all: the sentence was meant to him.

My eyes flashed open after the memory ended. I was puzzled. Should I feel disgusted or sad for Laito? Being in relationship with his own mother was sure something but thinking about the situation he was in: locked up in a prison and his 'lover' dumping him while showing him her new man. Even I could conclude that she was using him from the start.

(He looks hurt...) I thought looking at Laito. He wasn't wearing that silly and sly expression on his face. His sad gaze shifted from his mother to the ground, as he wasn't sure what to say.

One thing I was completely sure of: I absolutely didn't like that woman.

"b***h-chan, why are you so quite? b***h-chan?" The real Laito was calling me so I got out of my little world there.

I froze when I realized that Laito was next to me on the couch, looking at me with blood in his mouth. I quickly pushed him away after seeing that. He wasn't expecting that so he went down landing on his butt. I jumped behind the couch trying to put a barrier between the two of us. His face was funny though so I didn't hold back from chuckling a bit.

"What's with you..." he said getting up. "You didn't move when I started and the you suddenly push me away like that..."

"That's because..." I said trying to find an excuse. All of the brothers must had known about my long space outs by that time so I needed a good lie to cover everything up. "I was sleeping!" (LAME!)

"Sleeping...?" He wasn't buying it.

"Yeah! You see! I have a case when I sometimes sleep open eyed! It's weird no?" I said rubbing my head.

"And it happens just when we suck your blood?" He was smart, very smart!

"It happens all the time but YOU see only when you suck my blood..." I stopped. "Since that is all what you do when you're around me anyway..." I muttered that part under my breath but I think that he heard it.

"Hmm... maybe you're right..." I sighed mentally when I saw that he bought it. "And since you don't like me just sucking your blood, let's something different tonight!" He said grinning.

(Oh dear god...) "Look! Whatever in your mind that is dirt-"

"No no no! I promise it's nothing like that!" He waved his hands and sat back on the couch. "Let's talk!"

I was stunned. "Huh?"

"I said let's talk! Come on~ won't you have a little chat with me, b***h-chan?" He winked and patted beside him telling me to sit.

I refused the second offer of course. "Okay... what do you want to talk about?" The fact that I just learned THAT about him wasn't helping me relax but I was a little glad that he decided to actually talk to me.

But then I remembered Subaru. So that all vanished in seconds.

"You want me to bring up a topic?" He smirked. "Then tell me about your little adventure with Kanato..."

(He know about this too?!) "I wouldn't call it an adventure... it was more of a chase from my point of view..."

"And at the end you b***h-chan, were able to do another crazy thing and get away with it. I'm very impressed~"

He knew about that too. "Yeah... I wonder why he didn't do anything..." I said thinking about it again.

Laito giggled. "That's because he doesn't know what to do you... I myself don't know how to deal with you! I've never met a girl this crazy and bold before! Even her can't be compared to you..." I wondered, by her, did he mean Yui?

"The girls that Kanato had in his room... how were they like?" I felt stupid a bit asking that.

"They were all bitches! Just like you and the other b***h-chan. But you two were different. You keep doing crazy stuff while the other b***h-chan..." he stopped. By that I concluded that Yui was someone special to all of them after all. "Speaking about you, I think you'd want to fix things up with Subaru." He changed the subject.

I wasn't shocked by his knowledge of everything happening around him anymore. "Why should I do that?" I asked.

"Two reasons: one is that I need to be the one to break you not him. And you would like that too since you won't want to get onto Subaru's bad side..." I nodded as understood that part. But not in agreement for him breaking me of course. "Two... well... you called him a monster, which he hates the most, not long after he fought Ayato to keep you safe." He said grinning.

My eyes widened. (He fought Ayato...? For me...?) I looked down not finding a reply. Silence took over the room before Laito finally stood up. "...Well then, I'm looking forward to what you'll do next. Don't make me wait long, b***h-chan~" he winked again before vanishing.

Thanks to his last line, I understood that he wasn't trying to help. He was setting things up to watch another show. Even with knowing that, I was still thankful for him for telling me that.

I went outside as I remembered that I once saw a scratch in Subaru's face not so long ago. Then I recalled the noises that disturbed my sleep one night. It was Subaru's and Ayato's voices. That's when the fight took place, right after throwing that lousy dart.

Subaru is a vampire. That's a fact. He is also bad-mouthed, ill-tempered and selfish. But that didn't stop me from gaining interest in him. After all, he was the closest to my age, the most one I sympathized with and somehow the best one to treat me in that mansion. The feeling of guilt multiplied several times after hearing Laito's words so I couldn't just stand by. I needed to talk to him.

I went around the mansion, looking for him and hoping he is in a better mood than yesterday. When I found him, I saw him sitting next to a big window. He was gazing into the sky probably watching the moon. I was in my place for moments staring at him as he looked...

(...perfect...)

I gently slapped myself to snap out of my thoughts then I approached him. The look of deep thoughts turned into a furious one as he spotted me. He opened his mouth to say something, more like yell at me, but I was faster. "Please! Before you tell me off! Let me say something!"

"I don't want to hear anything from you. Get lost." He was harsh as always.

I wasn't going to give up just yet. "It's just one thing! Please liste-"

In seconds, he was before me holding my wrist hardly. In fact, he was twisting it. "Didn't you hear what I said? You want me to break you arm?!" He yelled.

I knew then begging him to listen won't do. "I came here to apologize!" I said getting straight to the point.

His grip loosened a bit. "For what?" He said still annoyed.

"For the things I said yesterday... and for other stuff..."

He smirked and let go of my arm. "Seriously? You came here to apologize for that?" He looked like he was mocking me but I knew that he was trying to hide his shock.

"Yes... I also wanted to thank you..."

"Thank me?"

I nodded. "I just knew that you were the reason Ayato didn't get to hurt after that accident." I said smiling.

He was pissed again. "And who told you that?!"

"Laito." I said selling him off quickly.

"That bastard..." Subaru formed a fist in his hand. I felt sorry for Laito. But he deserved it, since he was using me as the heroine of the drama he creates.

"He also told me... that you don't like being called... a monster..." I said slowly trying to see his reaction.

For a moment there, I saw the face I saw yesterday. But then it turned different as Subaru began laughing out loudly. I wasn't expecting that.

"You humans are idiots! You learn one good thing and you forget all of the other shitty things! You're just like her!" He said and I wasn't happy by it.

"You can think like that. It's fine. But I came here to tell you that I regret saying that since I said it on a whim. One thing that you're wrong about, I still didn't forget all of the things you all did to me and I won't ever forget them. Nor I forgave you too." I said replying.

He looked at me. "So you still got some hate for me?" He asked.

"Yes."

"Then kill me."

I stopped right there. (Did he say what I ...)

Before I could say a word, Subaru reached into his pocket and pulled out a silver knife. It was beautifully shaped but I didn't have time to admire it as Subaru shoved it in my hands. "I gave it to Yui before but she was a coward just like the rest of the others so she couldn't do it." He said. "This knife could kill me and them too. Kill me with it or kill yourself." He answered automatically one of my questions and all I needed to know was: "Should I do it?"

I found myself then pushing Subaru down and going on top of him. Clutching the knife in my hand, I raised it above my head ready to strike. My mind was clouded with just one sentence: "I can get out of here."

That time, I felt like nothing else mattered, not Subaru, not the brothers and not myself.

Seconds later, I noticed what I was doing. That left me frozen and looking at Subaru. His face was full of shock at first but then it was peaceful, like he was wishing for this for a long time. I stared at his ruby eyes. And what I saw next, left me in a complete loss of words.

Then she kills him along with the other brothers and run! Mwahahahaha!

Nope. It was a joke.

Soooo...

Anyone expected that? What do you think will happen next? Too bad you may have to wait a little bit for the next chapter since my holiday is near and I'll be taking a short break to write more chapters. I'll update regularly after that. The break won't exceed two weeks, don't worry. And I may even update earlier than that, if everything goes according to my plans.

One more promise to make, after this part, the both will finally get some romance for theirselves, a small one though... Don't want to rush things that's why.

One more thing, I can't remember if Cordelia was kissing Karl Heinz brother or another man. That's why I chose the second option since I wanted things to be more dramatic. Also, Nami's character begins to change from now on. Look forward to see what she'll do next!
