Opened her eyes after hearing
someone call her name for over
three times so loudly, she
wondered what was happening,
though at first, she was silent to
ensure it was not a dream.
The second time was for a
confirmation that it was really her
name and at the third mention she
jerked out of bed and ran
downstairs after tracing it to be the
source of the voice that woke her
up.
The voice came again for the
fourth time, "Sa...." Yes, Mum!, she
answered before her name was
pronounced fully to avoid the
action that may follow because it
will definetely not be pleasant.
"Yes, Mum", she said again to
ensure her Mum heard her.
Mrs. Evans turned and asked "why
are you still in bed, have you
forgotten you're supposed to start
your classes today? "
Omg, i almost forgot i was still a
student, Sarah thought and replied
"I'm sorry Mum, i would get to
preparation at once", she dared not
to say such thoughts aloud to her
Mum's hearing because her day
will be ruined by so much
strenuous activities that will make
her miss a meal and also sleep late
so she avoided it by just making it
a thought not a speech and ran
back to her room as fast as she
could.
Sarah Evans is a young girl of
about 16 years from a very decent,
though middle classed family, not
too rich, not too poor but have
enough for themselves and maybe
sometimes to spare for others, it
rarely happens, just only on
occassions or feastive seasons.
Well, Sarah finished her secondary
schooling last session and had to
change school to continue her
education which was furthering it
to the university level. She's
currently under a scholarship due
to her brilliance. Actually, Sarah
was always in the first position in
class, she was the smartest kid in
the class you could say and she
was also very much loved by the
teachers and parents, she's jovial
too and very respectful. With all
these qualities of hers, she was
usually told that she would attract
a good husband for herself, that's
quite true but she attracted
sponsors first. She was called a
blessing to her family because she
was the only child, her Mum wasn't
able to conceive again after her,
due to conditions in which she
gave birth to Sarah, i guess that's
why she's strict and loving at the
same time to her, Sarah was all she
had aside her husband, Mr. Evans.
Sarah was indeed lovable and this
really brought her favour different
times and one of them was the
scholarship.
It all happened on the graduation
day, during the award ceremony,
Sarah received like fifteen awards,
best in this, best in that, overall
best and the rest... she was highly
exceptional and these brought
both admiration and envy, friends,
supporters and enemies you could
say, she was loved and hated by
many.
On this day, many were present,
coming from different places, in
and out of the city because it was
a day and boarding school, Sarah
was a day student. After hearing
Sarah Evans up to seven times,
some were surprised, probably the
new parents, while others were
already expecting it because she
has been excellent for years.
Among those who were surprised
and watching in admiration was
Mr. Felix, and after the ceremony
he made enquiries about Sarah
and found out she had good
academic records and later got in
contact with the family and his
intention towards their daughter
was made known to them. No
conditions were attached because
he was quite wealthy and saw it as
a privilege to be part of the people
that contributed to ensuring that
great people like Sarah were not
limited because of finances, he
was a good man you could say.
And from then he took over the
bills and made Sarah go to a
private university, got her
accommodation and the feeding
was handled solely by her parents.
Sarah rushed downstairs and
headed straight to the dining for
breakfast and after that, she was
about leaving but was held back by
a grip and when she turned, she
got a tight hug from her Mum and
these words followed, "My darling,
you know i love you and want you
to always be the best, so go out
there and shine, remember it's your
first time so be smart and be a
good girl, make Mama proud, okay?"
Sarah just smiled back and nodded
in affirmation.
