Chapter Four: Accusations

I held Avarina and rubbed her belly. Over the past four weeks her belly had grown larger and I could feel my pup moving. I couldn't help the goofy smile that was always on my face. Mother had actually been excited to learn of Avarina's pregnancy and even given us a bigger room with a nursery. I still couldn't shake the feeling that she was up to something though. She was being far to nice and her smile didn't quite reach her eyes. "My love? Do you want another boy or do you want a little girl next." I laughed and squeezed her hand. "Your belly grows everyday and you're thinking about our next child?" She turned to me with a bright smile. "Of course." I held my mate tight, rubbing her belly and kissed it. Even if mother did something I was determined to enjoy this break. Suddenly one of her maids run up to us speaking in a different language. Whatever she said made the color leave my brides face. "No. No no no no no no no no!" "My mate what's wrong?" Her choked sobs broke my heart. "C....Cerina is accused of stealing from the queen. She is about to be executed." I bolted down the hallway yelling at the maid to take her back to our room and keep her there. I shifted and ran until I was in the great hall. "My queen please. I stole nothing." "Then how did my necklace end up in your room?!" I roared and stood in front of the female. I returned to normal, uncaring of my nudity. A guard handed me a pair of jeans and I put them on. "Have you lost your gods damned mind mother!?" I boomed. She visibly shrank on her throne. "Do you have proof she stole something? If you kill this female the treaty is over. Only Avarina can make decisions regarding her maids." Mother stood up and balled her fists. "I'm the queen! I can do what ever the hell I please! Kill that blood sucking female." "Who ever touches this female dies." I glanced at every male in the room. They all avoided eye contact and shifted uncomfortably. "I thought so." Mother became enraged and started screaming. "Fine! I'll kill her myself!" "Touch her and you will be sorry!" I turned to see my mate hunched over breathing heavy. Cerina ran to her and held her up. "When did your necklace go missing?" She winced while standing up straight. My tiny mate was so brave. It made my heart soar. Mother took a proud stance and answered. "This morning around eight." Avarina smiled and stood as straight as possible. "All three of my maids were with me at that time. And even if they did, I am the only one who is aloud to punish them." She took Cerina's hand and was leading her out of the hall when mother ran and stabbed the female in the back. "Cerina!!" "Guards! Restrain the queen and summon the king for an audience." I stormed out of that hall as mother screamed and kicked. "f*****g blood sucking bitches! I'll kill you before that bastard child is born!" Once at the infirmary, Cerina was treated, no serious injury. We all sat and talked about what to do next. "I don't know. Mother was never like this before. She was the one who convinced father to agree to the marriage." "Wait, your mother?" I looked at Avarina and nodded. "I need to get word to Father. We might need to live there for a while." I froze. "My love, the treaty will be over." "No. I'll just tell them that with the pregnancy I want to be with my family and you've want to visit the vampire kingdom to improve relations." Smart. My bride was just as clever as she was beautiful. "Then go pack and send word."
