Unknown POV
After spending two weeks on the road, I finally made my way via hitchhiking over the border to one of the border towns. I wasn’t exactly sure where to start looking for allies but I knew that any witch running away from the Council would definitely consider Canada. It was a tradition for supernatural creatures to head north to avoid the Werewolf Council. I didn’t have much money left from the compensation package that I received before leaving the disgusting former Council grounds and it was another reason to despise whatever those witches and werewolves are trying to do now. If compensation for years of suffering at the hands of the Werewolf Council couldn’t even tide me over for more than a month, then what exactly were they hoping to get out of this historical reconciliation? They say you can’t put a price tag on innocence. Yet, when the Grand Tribunal tried to compensate me for my sufferings, they couldn’t even be bothered to put a price tag on it that was at least close to acceptable.
“Werewolves, collaborating witches and those witches who abandoned their own sisters,” I muttered under my breath. The day would soon come when they would pay for everything that they had done! My grip on the sunstone tightened as I wandered the border town, searching for a cheap motel for the night before planning my next steps. My feet were beginning to hurt when I finally spotted a dingy looking two storey building a few miles off the highway. It looked tacky and old, exactly what I was looking for. As expected, the motel was cheap and the receptionist closed an eye when I produced an ID with a photo that looked nothing like me. Slinging my small backpack over my shoulders, I headed up to my room and did a thorough check for anything suspicious before lying down on the bed.
I was tired and hungry from traveling non-stop and sleeping rough on some nights but the thought of revenge fueled me. I grabbed an energy bar from my backpack and munched on it while I waited for the moon to rise so that I could use the sunstone. Suddenly, muffled moaning and panting sounds from next door came through the thin walls, making me double over in pain as memories attacked my mind. I tried my best to take deep breaths to calm myself down but before I could calm down my frayed nerves, the sounds stopped followed by a loud thud and in that moment, the sunstone in my pocket heated up. Could it be, I wondered? The palm of my hands were wet and clammy from my breakdown and my hands shook as I reached for the sunstone. I was hesitant to go outside to check out what happened. There was a 50/50 chance that whatever just happened next door could lead me to what I was searching for or it could lead me to my death.
My heart hammered against my chest as I hesitated before the door with my hand hovering over the door knob when suddenly, the decision was made for me. Thump, thump, thump. The sound of knuckles knocking on the door followed by silence sent a shiver down my spine. It was now or never. Pushing all my fears to the back of my mind, I opened the door to see a pair of scarlet eyes with specks of amber staring intensely at me. Those eyes reminded me of a burning fire and their piercing gaze made me feel like they were looking right into my soul. “Not going to invite me in, Sister?” The silvery voice was so enchanting that I took a step back and opened the door without hesitation. Only after the lilac haired lady entered the room, did I realize what I had done but it was too late now. I quickly shut the door behind me and decided to take a gamble.
“Was that you next door?” I asked as calmly as I could.
Her lips curled up and she tilted her head to one side, eyeing me from head to toe before speaking with me again. “Calm down, little Sister. I mean no harm, at least not to you. I sense that we have a common enemy,” the lady said as she sat down on the armchair opposite the bed. I was still too shocked to move and completely rooted to the ground beside the door but my mind was racing. Her aura is extremely powerful and I could feel her overwhelming presence in the balance the moment I had opened the door. There was no doubt in my mind that she knew what was in my pocket from the way that she was looking at me but how did she know who my enemy was? I knew it wasn’t wise to reveal too much to a stranger, especially to one so powerful and unreadable but I also knew that I didn’t have much of a choice. If she wanted to, she could kill me in a heartbeat and I didn’t doubt that she would in order to get the sunstone.
“Who are you? And what do you want from me?” I asked cautiously.
“It doesn’t matter who I am. Let’s just say I can help you to take down the list of witches and werewolves you have on your kill list and I know you’re not naive. I’d help you if you give me the stone you’re gripping onto in your pocket,” the lady said matter-of-factly.
“How do I know that you won’t just get rid of me after I’ve given you what you want,” I retorted with some newfound courage as realization dawned on me that I really had nothing left to lose.
“Good question,” the lady said as she raised her eyebrows. “You don’t know,” she said simply as she stood up. “But I’m sure you’re also not so silly to believe that you’d be able to achieve your goals on your own.”
My body tensed as the lady walked slowly towards me and instinctively, I reached into my other pocket for my lighter. Before I could react, the lady burst out into laughter and shook her head like she had just heard the funniest joke of the year. I knew immediately that my sneaky movements did not go unnoticed and I didn’t doubt that if this escalated into a fight, I’d be the one roasted. As the thoughts raced through my mind, I realized suddenly that if the lady had wanted to take my sunstone by force, she could have done it right from the start. The fact that she had bothered knocking on the door and sitting in the same room as me to talk to me must mean that there was some truth in her words or at the very least, she had some use for me. Once I came to that realization, it became clear to me what I needed to do.
“I’ve waited for over 8 years to have my revenge but the werewolf that I wanted to kill with my own hands was killed by another. I didn’t even have the chance to see the life ebbing out of him with my own eyes. I can’t wait anymore to have my revenge. I can’t let anyone else take what’s mine to kill away from me. I want to make them pay, all of them. I want to take away from them what they have taken from me. If you could give me that, then we have a deal.” My voice shook with anger and as I uttered the last few words, I could feel a rush of power through my veins. I widened my eyes in surprise and stared questioningly at the lady. “How?”
“Because you’re worthy, little Sister,” she said, beaming in satisfaction. “Welcome to the sisterhood of the First Witch’s Daughters.”
