Chapter Twelve By the time Sophie arrived at her parents’ house, her mom was already changed out of her church clothes and in the back yard, working in the dirt between two of her antique rose bushes. Sophie was still wearing her church dress, so she wasn’t planning on helping, but she did sit down on a bench, thinking maybe it was time to talk things out with one of the only people she really trusted with such important matters. Valerie would always listen if Sophie felt compelled to talk, and Tisa had volunteered to lend an ear, but in some cases, one just needed their mamma. “You look lovely,” Cindy said, looking up at her daughter.
