Chapter 4 - Arthur

I walked back into the main house, slamming the door behind me. I winced for a moment knowing that my mother would have heard that and would no doubt be on her way to chew his ear about not being respectful to her house. It didn’t matter that was almost 40, my mother was a fierce mamma bear and would have no problem putting me in me place. I couldn't understand it. My heart was thumping in my chest, and it wasn't like the walk here should have put any stress on my body. I must be getting ill, or old (I laughed to myself about that option), or could it be.... No, no way. Not happening. Must be getting ill. I never usually get ill. One of the perks of being who I am. Who we are. But it was the only thing that made any sense. I stalked through the ground floor of the property and into my fathers sitting room and slumped in one of the seats. My father, Kurt, never even looked up from the newspaper he was reading and I knew better than to interrupt him. Kurt Forvie was the boss around here. Boss at the Quarry the family ran, and Alpha of the pack. Despite him being my dad, I still wasn’t going to interrupt him reading his paper. Had learnt that lesson enough as a child. Letting out a huff a slumped back in the chair to wait it out. Hopefully while I sat here in silence, my heart would calm down. Stupid illness. My twin brother Ben came waltzing into the room then smirking at me. “What was that dramatic entrance for big brother?” he asked me while he took a seat in the other available arm chair. I looked at him, my ‘little’ brother by all of 7 minutes, sitting there with a great big smirk on his face and rolled my eyes. “I walked past the old Kellan house and met the new residents” I replied in a gruff tone. My father looked up for this and, frowning at my tone, folded his paper and sat it on the sofa right next to him. Ben looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to continue. “Met the lady and the 2 kids, never saw the husband. Will need to pop back later and introduce myself properly.” I finished. “There is no husband” my father stated. “Left him and came here with the girls. It was in the paperwork that was submitted and that you should have read” he continued with a glare, obvious to the fact that I had not, in fact, paid any attention to the information contained in the paperwork. Instantly I could feel something inside me perk up at this information and my mood lightened visibly. “You’ll stay away from her.” My dad stated. “From the impression I got, she’s been through enough and needed a safe place to escape to.” I did not like the sound of that and already could feel my mood darken once more. “From what Kellans boy said to me when he submitted their details for consideration in being allowed to move here, she doesn’t know about us. About our kind.” Dad stated looking between me and Ben. “Lets keep it that way!”
