Caroline's eyes flew open and she gasped sharply as she shot upright, her heart pounding wildly against her chest.
For a split second she had no idea where she was. Her breathing came out in uneven bursts as panic settled over her.
Then everything came rushing back...Kael... Before she could even gather herself, someone was beside her.
"Caroline."
The familiar deep voice immediately drew her attention.
She turned her head and saw Kael sitting beside the bed, his golden eyes fixed completely on her. His expression remained calm, but there was something different about him. Something she couldn't quite place.
