Interlude It’s with a sense of impending dread that Dwayne watches the Altima pull away. He waves goodbye, but the young couple don’t acknowledge him as they turn onto the main road. It’s only when the car vanishes from sight that he lets out a heavy sigh. Then his jaw sets in a determined frown, which remains in place as he digs his keys from his pocket and retrieves several items from a hidden compartment in his truck. Objects in hand, he makes his way over to the Corvette. Casting a wary glance at the hospital entrance, he opens the door and slides into the passenger seat. Satisfied that the man hasn’t moved since Dwayne placed his unconscious body behind the wheel, Dwayne peels the baseball cap off the man’s head and tosses it into the back seat.
