Chapter Twenty Monday, December 27 I start awake. It takes a few moments for my vision to focus, and several more before I recognize my surroundings. The stiff cushions of Captain Callahan’s sofa give slightly as I shift position, twisting my neck to glimpse the room’s other occupant, currently reclining in a nearby office chair. “Everything all right?” Grace’s voice cuts through the darkened room. I sit up, wipe some crud from my eyes, and stretch my aching back muscles. “Yeah. Just…not used to this couch.” I don’t tell her the real reason for my abrupt awakening, which is that I was having a very unpleasant dream where Piper and I were staring at each other across a wide, dark chasm.
