Chapter 24: Paul’s Suggestion Lockland, Ohio Sander told me that the cabin sat mostly empty on those summertime nights. I had the Caddy’s driver side window down and listened to an owl hoot in the distance. Crickets performed a concerto, and cicadas joined in. It started to rain by the time we reached the cabin and lake. A downpour occurred almost instantly, flooding out one section of the dirt road that led to the cabin. The event didn’t prevent me from driving through the flooded road, pushing the Caddy forward, making her work overtime. The engine groaned and complained about the flood, but worked just fine. To my surprise, and probably to Sander’s surprise also, the Caddy made it through the foot-deep water, came up on the cabin, and I parked it out front. Awake now, Sander exited
