Chapter 29: Morning Bodies The next morning turned thick with humidity and overwhelming heat. The temperature escalated above ninety degrees and offered no wind. At dawn, my arms and face were covered in a thick layer of perspiration. The sun looked fluid and bright on the horizon, a burst of pure evil crazed on a mission to dehydrate and burn unprotected flesh on humans, including me. Cicadas burst with noise around the cabin, hidden in the trees as I struggled to carry Sander’s body in my arms, walking him to the fraternity brothers’ gravesite. I decided to bury Sander there since the earth was free of rocks and tree roots, easy to work with. My balance wavered to the left and right because of his mass, the epitome of dead weight. I found Gino at the edge of the woods, face-up, dead.
