Liv
10 years later (Present)
“Hello is anyone there? Can you help me, I think i’m lost?” I call out as I walk closer and slower to the music that seems to be coming from this light.
I was just feet away from making it to the light but then this odd sharp pain ran through my entire body. Throwing me at the ground again.
“Aaahhh, it hurts! My body hurts so bad why? What is happening to me. Please help me?!” I cried as I reach out my hand.
I grab my body with my arms crossing around it. I felt so lost and broken, it was like something was inside of me. Stretching its way out, my head had a thumping feeling to it like my brain was being ram into.
“Ugh I don’t feel good, my body doesn’t doesn’t…” I stumble my words as the pain got worse. I felt like I was in the oven baking.
Then I felt my whole body going down hitting the ground hard. And I lay there shaking in the coldness. There was nothing left to do. I couldn’t even talk anymore for my throat felt like sandpaper. And my eyes close and tighten. Hoping it will go away as I try to sleep it off.
I knew this was me dreaming but I just don’t understand why my dream always lead me here. Drafting in the abyss, alone to my thoughts in agony. What the hell was going on with me. Why can’t I seem to change my path when my sleeping mind brings me here. It was just an recurring nightmare over and over again.
“I hate this s**t! Why the f**k can’t I dream of something else?” My head thumping and…
Bell ringing
“Mmhh what the fuck.”I muffle under my breath. I open my eyes and found myself asleep in math class. I was so tired from working late last night and practicing spells. I didn’t get a chance to sleep more than 4 hours.
“Okay class have a safe weekend. And don’t forget we have a test Monday.” The teacher yells to her students.
I grabbed my stuff and hurry to put my books in my bag. Feeling over drain today. I couldn’t wait to get out of here and into a better atmosphere. As always, when I get out of class a fully energize wolf grabs me in a head lock full of joy.
“Hey there little witchy witch.” Mason chuckles as he puts all of his weight on me.
“Wouldn’t you like to know moon boy.” Mason fake gasp at me. But we both laugh and make our way to our lockers. “Ugh, I need to fix my schedule up better.”
“I’ve been told you to save that spirit s**t for another day Liv.” Taking his books out his bag and just leaving it all in his locker. “Don’t you witches get drain out if you do too much?” An concerning voices in his throat. I can feel him glaring at me.
I just mumble and ignore him. Mason is like an annoying older brother of mine. Always seems to know what’s best for me and overly protective when it comes to boys. He doesn’t call me ugly like most brothers but he still likes to tease me like one.
Mason wasn’t a witch, he was a wolf. Well really he’s some kind of big shot in his pack. Some massive battle left his pack to appoint a new Alpha. Mason told me he grew up with the new Alpha, they are like brothers. They spent their whole life training for one day to be appointed Alpha and Beta. But then 3 years ago the former Alpha died and his best friend Travis took over the pack. And as promised he made Mason his Beta.
I never thought anyone so young can become Alpha nor a Beta. But Travis was 16 at the time and Mason was 15. At that point their pack was ran by the young people. I didn’t know the Gamma, I think that’s what its call, whatever it is the other high rank motherfucker. The Gamma is another young kid but he’s a girl. I don’t know much beside she a badass supposedly.
Either way, I meet Mason years ago when I started to go to school. After waking up at some random orphanage. Short after I was adopt. I was grateful for this new life the Goddess has given me. I took it as a sign and went with it. I try not to think of my past, nor my coven, not my parents, and not Mery. I had to leave all of this behind me now. They don’t care about me anymore, so I shouldn’t care about them either.
“Hey, Liv what’s up?” Mason slammed his locker shut, bring me out my mood.
I just glare at him and shut my locker too. Leaving a small smile on my face. “Nothing, i’m tired.”
“You got bags under your eyes Liv, were you asleep last period again?”
“Umm no.” I lied of course, but Mason knew better.
We walk through the hall in the crowded school as we make it out this hell storm.
“Liv! Liv!” Mason grabs my shoulder and made me face him. I just widen my eyes at him, barely. “You had the dream again didn’t you?”
I relaxed my shoulders when he brought up my nightmare. Mason knows everything about me. He was the first person I met when I started to go to school and we had been attach to the hip ever since. Also meaning he knows my bad past and all my nightmares. Annoyedly meaning he’s a very extra watch dog with me.
“Okay yeah, but i’m fine okay.” I lied again.
“You sure?” He ask and I nod.
“Yeah i’m fine, it just hits me harder these days. I don’t know what it is but every time I wake up. I get these massive headaches.” Rubbing my temple and Mason does the same as if he can feel my pain.
“I still think it has to be a sign of what your gift will be on your birthday?” I roll my eyes at him. “What! Come on, I know you’ve been thinking it too.” Removing his hand from my head.
“I read all the books Mason, they don’t say anything about nightmares or headaches.” Mason frown at me and I had to put a smile on to change the mood. “Hey don’t worry watch my gift be something big though.” Mason worries too much for me, it’s sweet but annoying sometimes. This was one reason why my parents love him.
Mason chuckle. “What you think it’ll be?”
And then in a second arms come running over both Mason and I neck. Pulling us together. “Liv is gonna be able to change the world.” Connie my other best friend blurted out. She was a witch too but she likes to focus more on healing spell. She wants to be a nurse and she thinks if she practice one section of magic more. Than her gift will be in that range.
“Yeah as if, what am I gonna change. The gross income or minimum wage for the young, world peace?” I chuckle as both Mason and I brake out of Connie’s arms.
“Ohh come on, don’t think so low of yourself girly. You will see next week, I will get my gift and it be great. Then on your birthday yours will be even better.”
I chuckle, “okay sure.”
Mason went along with Connie’s comment. “Yeah Liv, smile please. Your Ancestors have more in store for you. Don’t be such a donkey.”
Keeping my face dry. “Guys I don’t want to talk about this okay. It always ends with me just being all gloomy and then you two have to spent the day cheering me up. I don’t care if I get a gift or not. I don’t care what kind of gift I get either. I’m just glad I get to practice magic still that’s all.” I scoff loudly.
The closer and closer I get to being 18 the more Connie and Mason wants to talk about my birthday and my gift. Honesty I hate talking about it. It just makes me think about my coven and how I don’t get to spent this special day with Mery. Sometimes I wonder if she even thinks of me at all. I can never stop thinking about her these past few days. I just hope I did the right thing pushing her away to be more independent without me. I pray to the Goddess Mery is doing just fine without me. Better even.
“Alright fine no more, I swear.” Connie lift her arms up to surrender. Connie didn’t know about my bad past really. She just knows that I was given up at 7 for lack of magic skills. I didn’t have the heart to explain everything to another soul. Only Mason knew the whole story.
“Thank you.” I said.
“So are you girls coming to the party this weekend?” Mason changing the subject as always. He was a good buffer.
“Ohh yeah, I can’t wait to see some cute boys this week.” We laugh, Connie was a sweet heart but when it came down to a cute boy she likes to play the hard game with them. Oddly enough the boys are intrigue with it. Most guys like it easy or just easier, like Mason. For what I know he don’t chase another tail. He always out to clubs and banging girls with his pack.
“Are you coming Liv?” Mason asked.
“Ohh yah come along Liv, let’s party and dance under the moon.” Connie grabs my arm and started jumping. “We might even find our mates, and if not at least a cute boy to lay under with.” She winks at me.
“No I got work this week and I got to study.” I lied. I just don’t want to be around them and drunk vampires, wolves, witches and even some humans. I just wanted to catch up on my sleep really.
“No, come on.” Both Connie and Mason pouted like little kids.
“Let’s drink girly, it’s not fun without you anymore!”
“Come out with us, it has been forever since we party.” Connie blinks her lashes at me all puppy dog eyes.
I thought I tease her and smile at her puppy face. “Well then..,” both of them smile with eyes. “No still.”
“Ahh!” I laugh at both of them.
“Liv come on, you can’t hid anymore. You got to get out there.” Mason walks up to me, giving us a small space in between.
“Why should I, there’s no point.” I sigh.
“Fun! Drinks! Music! Dance! Boys and us!” Connie whines, I glare at her.
“I can do that anywhere with just you guys.”
“Ugh come on girl, just once come out with us. Mason will drive us home!” Connie does this every time. She goes on and on to convince me to change my mind. But I never do. I’ve been over the whole party thing for a while now. It’s not fun anymore.
“I’m sorry Connie, I can’t. I need to work.”
She continues to pout. “Ugh fine then.” I hate to disappoint her. But I just don’t want to drink with the other teen idiots. I would rather just drink with Mason and Connie at our spot in the woods.
“Liv you got to move on. He didn’t deserve you. Besides. You might find your mate at the party one day. Isn’t that a good enough reason to come out with us?” Mason went all brother like on me. Seeing him all like this makes my walls come down. I can never hid my feelings from him, he knows me too well.
“It’s not about him, Mason!” I try to smile but couldn’t.
“Then come out, your mate is out there. He or she will be waiting for you.”
Mason was a true hound dog okay ladies. He’s cute on the outside but once he out loose he will hump the first piece of p***y that will let him in. Yet when it comes down to all this mate crap he’s all spokesman about it. Mason was all about fated love, soulmate crap. It’s f*****g annoying every God damn time. He always like to pull this mate s**t on me. And most times it works. It gets me the courage to come out but at the end of the night, no mate for old Liv here. Just puke in my shoes for taking care of Connie’s drunk ass.
“Ohh Mason, I hope your mate gives you the clap.” He rolls his eyes at me and I can’t hold myself from laughing at him. “Whoever my mate is, he won’t be at some stupid teen party.”
“You don’t know that if you don’t go Liv. He might of been there every time you haven’t.” Mason tilts his head at me.
“Then he can keep waiting!” Mason growl at my reply.
“Liv i’m sorry Flinn hurt you, but your mate won’t be like that.” My heart stopped at the sound of my ex’s name.
“You don’t know that Mason.” My eyes water a little.
“I have to believe the Goddess choose good people for you and for us. He won’t hurt you and if he does I will be there like always.” Mason rubs my arm and I sigh at his touch. My break up with my ex was bad. Made the whole love game change for me. I didn’t even want to talk to another boy again because of him. I was completely heart broken. And Mason was there to help pick up the pieces.
A tear fell down my face, thinking back about to the last time I let a guy love me. Mason notice and rubs my tear away. “I didn’t mean to make you sad Liv. I just worry about you.” I push his hand away and turn my face to the street. “I feel like, the only times you get out now, is work, school, and your little woods trips. We miss you Liv, please come out.”
I love Mason and Connie, but I guess he had a point. I don’t go out like I use to anymore. When I do, it’s for work, school, practice magic in the woods to be closer to the Goddess, or the little times I gone out with them. And of course not at those stupid party. I should just throw Mason a bone for once, I know that will make him happy.
“I love you guys, you two are my world. So I’ll go to your stupid party..”
“What! You will, oh my God yay Liv!” Connie jump over the moon.
“.. next week, I swear.” And then she pouted again. “I’m just really busy this weekend. But I promise, I will go party with you two next Saturday okay.” At least this would make them happy.
“Okay fair.” Connie said with a slight smile. “Bye guys, I got to go.” We wave bye to Connie.
“I’ll hold you up to it Liv.” Mason said with a hard glare.
“I know you will Mason.” I gave him a light tap on the jaw and we shared a smile.
“Did you need a ride to work today?”
“No thanks, i’m gonna get some practice in first.” Tapping at my backpack.
“Okay Liv, just be careful. Call me if you need anything.”
I gave Mason a hug and he hug me back with his damn wolf strength. I couldn’t breathe so I had to hit him hard in the back to let me go. “Let go Mason!” I gasp.
“Sorry, I just worry for you, being in the woods all alone. Your a witch and if a wolf comes up he can kill you quick.” His voice cracked a little. Concerning as always.
“I told you Mason, I always set up a barrier spell to keep anything bad from coming into my space. I’ll be safe, I swear.” I started doing the barrier spell in the woods during my lessons to keep myself safe. I know Mason worries too much. I never had a problem before but with him being all Beta wolf he has gotten more concerning now. It was sweet, I love him but I also want to strangle him too.
“I won’t forgive myself if something bad happens to you. I should start coming with you, I can get time away from my pack to keep you safe Liv!” God damn it Mason, he needs to stop treating me like a little kid. Sometimes I think he forgets i’m a witch and I can protect myself.
“No, no, Mason you can’t.” I plead. Not needing a body guard.
“No I can, I’ll just call my Alpha and he’ll understand. We can even do it after school every day if you want.” Mason needs a damn muscle, I swear to Moon Goddess.
“No, I can’t keep you away from your Beta whatever duties. You have a pack to protect. I can take care of myself.” I pleaded. I try to reassure him but I know whatever I say won’t ease his heart. I just relay on him for everything for far too long. But if i’m gonna be the witch I want to be. I have to do things by myself.
“You go take care of your pack and I’ll call you if i’m in danger, okay.” Putting my hand on his cheek. He leans into it.
Mason looks up at me and his eye flicker to his wolf and back. I had meet Mason’s wolf a few times and he is just as protective as Mason is. So I know he was also a part of this conversation too. “I will be okay Oliver, I know you and Mason will protect me. I just can’t ask you two to put me ahead of the pack.” Oliver purrs at me and I smile at the touch of his warm breath.
“We love you Liv.” Mason grabs my hand with a light kiss on my knuckles.
“I know you boys do. I love you too. Now go on, isn’t there some Beta duties, meeting, training or something you have to get to?” Mason laugh at me. My lack of wolves knowledge always seems to put a smile on their face.
“Yeah we do, I got to catch up with Travis about some stuff.” Mason had a huge smile leading from one side to the other now.
“Okay then go on boys. Get you Beta s**t on!” Both of us laugh as I swing my arm up in the air.
“You know one day I have to teach you about my people, maybe then you’ll understand me better.” He laugh. I know Mason pretty damn well but, I would love to learn more about wolves. I just figure I have decades to learn, so no rush for me.
“On top of everything else I have to learn, maybe.” I said. I know one day I should. I just need to focus on my witchy stuff first.
“Maybe I can arrange for you to come see my pack and meet my Alpha. You’ll like him, I know you two will get along.”
A little joy sprang inside me. Not to meeting Travis though, I can care less. It would be cool to see a wolf pack one day. I know most wolves don’t trust witches but I’m sure I’ll have no problem being a guest there with Mason beside me.
“That’ll be nice Mason. After all these year I always wanted to visit your pack. Just don’t try to pawn me off to your wolf friends.” I joke with him.
“Okay I won’t, I swear. I’ll plan a day for you to come one day.”
Mason’s phone rings as he gets a call from his Alpha. “Yes, Alpha. I’m heading home right now.”
“Your pack needs you boys?” Giving Mason a kiss on the cheek. And I know Oliver is just jumping on the inside wiggling his tail.
“Be safe Liv.” I watch as Mason got in his car and drove off the school grounds.
Mason has change so much over the years. He change even more once he took his Beta title. It was good for him though, he change for the better. I was proud of Mason, he was stepping up in this world. I know his dad must be very proud of him too.
Great now i’m left here thinking of my dad. And how I wish he can see how much I have change over these years since he left me at that orphanage. Whatever don’t think about it Liv. Now to myself I can get my alone time and get some stuff done.
