I. Conrad Atticus Fherin
Atticus knew how hard life is when he was still in his world. He was always bullied because he was weak and cowardly. His classmates always make fun of him because of that reason. His mother died because she was hit by a car and his father blames him for his mother’s death. He told his mother to buy him an ice cream but then that accident happened.
He pities himself because problems always run after him. No one was kind; everyone treated him badly. That made him question the creator of the world about his life. Why was the creator making his life more miserable?
When a lot of problems arise and his father beats him, he tries to kill himself, but then a black book absorbed him and took him to a different world.
He thought that the world where he was born was the worst until he was sent by the black book into the world called Tercera. He woke up in the middle of the lake and his body was floating.
The Tercera world is full of demons and he almost died because a demon appeared in the lake where he was, but then a beautiful red-haired woman saved him and killed the demon.
Atticus smiled because of Aziza.
She introduced herself and her name is Aziza and she’s an adventurer. She kills demons and protects the Hermoza village. Aziza told him that he could live with them and she would help him to be strong and be an adventurer.
Aziza was the one who told him that the creature who almost attacked him in the lake was a demon and he almost lost his life because the demon was going to devour him. He can remember that moment when Aziza killed the demon in front of him.
He was scared, but then he was also amazed by how Aziza skilfully killed the demon.
When Aziza told him that he could be an adventurer and kill demons, he saw from Aziza’s eyes the hope that he had never seen anyone while looking at him. Atticus felt a new feeling inside of him while he was looking at Aziza’s eyes.
He felt at that moment that in this world he could finally find his purpose as a human. No one was bullying him in the Tercera and he saw people helping each other to fight the demons. Even though Atticus is scared every day, Aziza makes sure that he’s safe from the attack of the demons.
“I am still thankful to Aziza because she let me live here in the Hermoza even though I come from the other world.” He asked himself why he was running around the village.
Atticus is training to become an adventurer and the training wasn’t easy. But then, because he wanted to help Aziza to fight the demons, he tries his best to learn different attacks. He also asked Aziza if he could have weapons and Atticus was surprised when, a day later, Aziza told him that she had actually told someone she knew to make a weapon for him.
He noticed how beautiful the Tercera world is, but then demons are living with humans and humans becoming the food of the demons is the reason why adventurers should become strong. Demons are multiplying, but Tercera lacks adventurers who can kill demons.
When Atticus was done running, he went inside the house and saw Aziza drinking her coffee. Bell was also beside her who was drinking her milk. Bell is Aziza’s companion. Aziza told her that he would also have his companion once he reached the level of 18, but it also depends because Aziza said that she got Bell after she killed a level 8 demon.
“Are you done running, Atticus? We are going to buy vegetables later,” Aziza said to him.
He nodded, “I am done. Are you the one going to cook for this morning?”
“Yes, you can sit here. Do you want coffee or milk?” Aziza asked him.
Aziza is the only one treating him like this. Back in his world, no one treated him like how Aziza treated him here. Even his father never does that, he never asks where he is, what food he likes or where he is going to go. Everything concerned him, no one asked him and Aziza was the only one who was like this to him.
“Atticus, you are spacing out again, I think you want coffee?”
“I-uh… I am sorry, yes please, coffee will do. Thank you, Aziza.” He said.
Aziza smiled and turned her back. When he looked at Bell he saw the small creature also smiling and he noticed that her smile was strange.
“You are getting nervous again in front of Aziza, Atticus,” Bella said.
The small creature is teasing him. From the day that Aziza found him in the lake and let him live with them. Bell—Aziza’s companion is always teasing him and she says that he likes Aziza.
“I am always nervous in your eyes, Bell. Finish drinking your milk before it gets cold, he said.
Atticus suddenly remembered his old self in the modern world. He was going to kill himself but then a black book absorbed him. He believes that everything happens for a reason and he knows that he came here to Tercera world to fight demons like what Aziza told him.
But then he cannot help but doubt himself sometimes.
“Atticus, what does your world look like?”
He looked at his palm and then he opened and closed both of his hands. He wanted to be strong, but then his mind didn’t cooperate sometimes. He always thinks that what if a demon ate him? What if, while they are fighting a demon, he makes a mistake and Aziza and Bell’s lives are at risk because of him?
“Atticus, are you listening to me?”
He sighed. He couldn’t help to think negatively about what was going to happen. That’s really him. He grew up like that. That’s why he cannot avoid thinking about negative things.
“Atticus, you are spacing out again!”
“Ouch!”
Atticus looked at Bell who was pulling his hair. The little companion was angry at him again.
