Chapter 3: A night on the town

822 Words
I arrive home and whip open my closet, desperately seeking the perfect dress for the night out. I haven't been out since my relationship with Jason ended, and tonight feels like a fresh start. As I sift through my clothes, I finally settle on a sleek, emerald-colored dress that makes me feel confident and sexy. With a sense of anticipation, I start getting ready, eager to reconnect with my best friend. I pull out my sultry nude boots and start accessorizing, adding a touch of sparkle with a pair of statement earrings and a delicate bracelet. A quick glance in the mirror reassures me that I'm ready. With a final spritz of my favorite perfume, I grab my clutch and head out the door, a blend of nervousness and determination coursing through me as I step into the night, ready to embrace the evening ahead. My phone rings as I walk toward the Chateau, a popular nightclub for the students on campus. I pull it out and see that it's Sam calling. "Hello," I say. "Hey girl, where the f**k are you? I've been waiting forever," she exclaims. "I'm almost there," I reply with a giggle. "Come outside and meet me?" I quicken my pace, eager to see her. "Of course!" she replies, and we disconnect. I tuck my phone back into my clutch and continue down the street, the distant thrum of music growing louder with each step. The anticipation of seeing Sam and the promise of a fun night out bring a small smile to my face as I approach the club's entrance. An excited squeal escapes her lips when she sees me, and we run toward each other to embrace. "It feels like it's been forever!" I say, and Sam agrees. She looks stunning, a deep blue gown and silver heels accentuating her ethereal look. She's always been beautiful, but tonight she shines even brighter. Her radiant smile and infectious energy remind me of why I've missed her so much. She grabs my hand and pulls me into the scene. Flashing lights and thrumming music invigorate my body, and we quickly begin dancing. The rhythm takes over, and the worries of the past few days fade away as we lose ourselves in the moment. Surrounded by the energy of the crowd, we move in sync, laughing and enjoying the freedom of the night. After a while, we tire and decide to grab a table in the back with some drinks. The lively atmosphere continues around us, but here we find a moment of respite. Sipping our drinks, we chat and catch up, sharing stories and laughter. Sam is updating me on her family and her classes, and I'm happily listening, realizing how much Jason really did isolate me. Sam notices I'm gazing off into space and gently grabs my arm, asking, "Lucy, are you okay?" Her concern pulls me back to the present, and I offer a reassuring smile. "Yeah, I'm okay," I reply, grateful for her existence. “I just didn’t realize how disconnected I had gotten, you know, being with Jason," I admit, my voice tinged with a mix of regret and relief. Sam nods understandingly, her expression softening. "It's easy to lose sight of things when you're caught up in a relationship," she says gently. "But I'm glad you're here now." Her words offer comfort, and I am grateful she understands. “So,” I start, "I have something to tell you," I finish with a whisper. "The other day… something strange happened to me." Her eyes widen with curiosity and concern. "What do you mean?" Sam asks. "I mean, I think I might be losing it. I think a wolf attacked me." Her expression shifts to one of disbelief mixed with worry. "A wolf? Are you serious?" she asks, leaning in closer. I nod, trying to find the right words to explain the surreal experience. "He just pinned me and then disappeared into the woods," I explain, my voice barely above a whisper. Sam listens intently, her brow furrowed in concern. "That's... intense," she says slowly. "Are you sure it wasn't a dream?" I shake my head, the memory still vivid in my mind. "It felt so real," I reply, searching her eyes for understanding. "I don't know what to make of it." Sam reaches out, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. "We'll figure it out together," she promises. A wave of relief washed over me as we prepared to leave the club. Outside, we exchanged goodbyes, sharing a warm hug before parting ways. As I turned in the direction of my home, the cool night air swirled around me. Listening to the crickets and frogs helped clear my mind as I walked. Their rhythmic chorus blended with the night, creating a soothing soundtrack that accompanied me on my journey home. Despite the lingering questions, I felt a sense of peace knowing I wasn't alone.
