CHAPTER 5 He didn’t pack a bag. Just his wallet, a phone charger, and the last photo of them under the mango tree. Jane smiling, him pretending to glare, both of them tangled together like vines. He slipped out at 2 a.m., sneakers silent on the concrete, heart screaming louder than the crickets. “I have to. If I stay, I’ll break her. If I leave… maybe I can fix myself first.” She handed him a small envelope. “Your train ticket to Arusha. My cousin runs a lodge there, you can work in the kitchen till you figure things out. And Jane… she’ll find you. She always does.” He kissed her forehead chaste, grateful, then turned toward the station. Behind him, a voice called: “Jaden?” It was Jane. Hair wild, eyes swollen, clutching a folded note. “I found your letter. You think running away will make it easier? It won’t. It’ll just leave me alone.” He froze. “I’m not running from you. I’m running… for you. So I can be someone worthy; not a secret, not a shame, not a mistake.” She stepped closer. “You’re my twin. My love. My beginning. You don’t get to decide what’s worthwhile. We do. Together.” Aria watched, silent. Then she spoke: “If you stay, you’ll lose your family, your friends, maybe your future. Are you ready for that?” Jane didn’t hesitate. “We’ll build a new future. One that doesn’t hide behind trees or whispers. One that shouts; ‘We love each other, and that’s enough.’” Jaden looked at Aria. “You deserve someone who isn’t torn in two.” Aria smiled sadly. “I deserve someone who knows their own heart. You’re still learning. Go. Be with her. Fight for her. And when you’re ready, call me. I’ll be here.” Jane took his hand. “Let’s go. Not to Arusha. Not to escape. But to start over together. Wherever the road takes us.” They walked away, hand in hand, under a sky full of stars: no map, no plan, just each other. And for the first time, they didn’t whisper. They didn’t hide. They simply… walked.
