Chapter 3

640 Words
The food blogger immediately chimed in from the sidelines. "Vivian is just so sweet! She built Grandma Rose's into a wildly successful brand all on her own, and she still takes time out of her busy schedule to check on her down-on-her-luck older sister." I shot to my feet and fixed her with an icy stare. "Had your fun? Then get the hell out. And don't track dirt all over my floor." Vivian covered her mouth in exaggerated shock before bursting into laughter. "Whoa. Still got quite the temper, huh? Do you still think you're the privileged Mrs. Reed of the Reed family?" She pulled a bottle of smoked chili sauce from her bag and held it up to the camera. "Look at this, everyone! This is the defective version of our Grandma Rose's Condiments chili sauce. It's obviously not as good as the real thing, but it's more than good enough to hand out to beggars." She turned to me with a smug smile. "Olivia, if you beg me nicely, maybe I'll toss you a bottle as charity." Noah stood right behind her, a smug, gloating grin plastered across his face as he watched me. "Olivia, I told you a long time ago. What goes around comes around." Just then, Ethan walked through the door, carrying two takeout containers. He was dressed in a faded white button-down, his hair slightly mussed at the ends. He looked every inch the penniless, disgraced heir we'd been pretending he was. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" The moment Ethan saw what was happening, he stepped forward and shielded me with his body. "Well, well. Look who's back. The disgraced heir himself." Vivian let out a cold sneer and gave a quick, subtle signal to the hired thugs waiting behind her. The burly men surged forward at once and shoved Ethan hard. "Move it! Don't get in the way of Vivian's livestream!" Caught in the middle of the scuffle, Ethan was sent crashing into a pile of discarded wooden crates. Thud. The crates rattled violently. His forehead struck a sharp corner of the wood, and bright red blood immediately welled from the gash. Noah watched from the sidelines, his expression cold and indifferent. He even gave a mocking snort. "What a useless loser." I clenched my fists. But I gritted my teeth and forced myself not to lose my temper on camera. I didn't lunge forward and wipe that smug, sneering grin off Vivian's face, either. Instead, I hurried over to Ethan and knelt beside him. I pulled a clean handkerchief from my pocket and gently wiped the dust and blood from his face. "Does it hurt?" I asked softly. Ethan wrapped his hand around mine and used my arm to pull himself to his feet. Then he shook his head. "I'm fine." Vivian was convinced we were completely finished, so she turned back to the camera and basked in her own triumph. "See that, everyone? This is what happens when you choose the wrong man! I, Vivian Bennett, am about to become the youngest food queen in Westbridge!" The moment the livestream ended, I locked the warehouse and led Ethan into a sterile, temperature-controlled room hidden behind a secret door. The room was packed with the purification equipment he'd had delivered ahead of time. I adjusted the temperature precisely according to the secret family recipe my grandmother had left me. 3 hours later, the very first batch of our premium chili sauce was finally ready. Ethan immediately arranged for a sample to be rushed to the International Fine Food Contest that very night. Then he gently rubbed my swollen, reddened hands, raw from hours of work. "When we finally spring this trap," he murmured, "I'll never let anyone push you around or make you suffer again." End of Olivia's POV.
