A week had passed and Sei had not yet reached the capital.  As the generals became even more insistent on establishing a union to secure the throne, Iris became increasingly nervous and her tolerance for frustration waned. The law required the king to obey, and the king was the one who actually made the law, which was in contradiction. At night she woke up breathless, and she became more and more hungry. She woke up salivating as if she were able at that moment to chew all the ministers who spoke to her about whatever was out of her sphere of interest. She had begun to take supplies of dried meat with her, strips to have on hand when she felt the need to chew, and tried not to look anyone in the eye, which told everyone that she was distracted and not paying attention to the discussions
