IT WAS A CITY THAT Toronto wished it was at one time. It became old, and dusty, thrown into the back of the closet like a once favorite toy. In her heyday, she was the Queen City, a beauty that architects and artists alike were drawn to. She peaked at almost 600,000 people, but would never be the gray lady again.
The second world war brought tens of thousands of people to the city to fill the factories. There was Curtiss-Wright Corporation that produced thousands of P-40 Warhawk, and C-46 Commando planes. Bell Aircraft produced P-39 Airacobra and P-63 Kingcobra planes. These aircraft helped the Allies win the war. The P-40 was a workhorse, with close to 12,000 built in Buffalo.
