DON MANCINI SR. WAS a made man. What that meant was that he had most likely killed someone to join the exclusive club known as the Mafia. He was five-foot-ten with broad shoulders and a full head of graying hair. He has been a bookie since the seventies. Mancini did his best to keep his kids out of the life, but s**t happens.
Mancini wanted a sit down with Jimmy Colombo, consigliere, or close adviser, to the mob boss because Junior wanted to know why Victor Ragu was after Rex.
Colombo agreed to meet Mancini at Santero's early in the morning. The restaurant wasn't open, but there was always someone there. Mancini arrived at eight. When he walked in the back door two men were waiting. One was a musclebound freak on steroids known as Roid, and the other was Colombo’s guard, Red.
