Chapter 6

SCARLET Driving back home with the convertible was so much better for so many reasons. The obvious reasons being that I don’t have to ride with all those disgusting kids in the bus and not having to worry about walking home either. But the best part of all was getting to see Rose’s face while everyone watches her sister, who embarrasses her so much, get into her beautiful little car with her. Seeing her annoyed is a sight to see. She barely said a word to me throughout the whole ride, but it’s not like I minded at all. She’s prettier when her mouth is shut. We pulled up to our neighbourhood and I stuck my hand out, loving the feeling of the wind pushing against it. That’s when I saw it again, The black and blue blur. They were quicker this time, they seemed to even match the speed of the car. “Stop the car,” I said. “What, why?” “Just stop the f*****g car!” The car skidded to a halt, it’s a good thing our street is usually quiet so there were no cars behind or in front of us. Again, immediately, they disappear. “What the f**k is wrong with you?” Rose yelled at me then turned her gear shift, but I stopped her, my finger on my lips. I looked all around me. They were moving in between the houses, jumping over fences and hiding between the trees. How is it that no one else was seeing this? It was as if they were fading in and out of existence. What were they even? Was there only one of them? Was it a vampire that bit me yesterday? Why? Why would a vampire bite me? They should know that I’m one as well. The moment you turn 16 your senses heighten to detect other supernaturals. Each creature has a distinct scent. Some being more alluring to vampires than others. Humans were obviously the most alluring to vampires, while others such as werewolves aren’t at all. But this… person? Thing? They had no scent. Nothing to distinguish them. “Maybe you should start driving again, Rose. I just thought I saw something…” I said turning to her and seeing she was knocked out cold. “Rose?!” Next thing I knew they were in front of me. A woman with midnight coloured hair and ocean eyes to match. I fell asleep, falling into their ice-like hands. VIOLET Scarlet and Rose had just gotten back from school, I guess Rose was driving Scarlet around now. Maybe they’re even getting along, I watched them come in from the top of the stairs, but someone was with them. I hid my figure behind the wall, hoping I wasn’t spotted by the stranger. This was weird. Neither of them ever brought anyone home. I peeked again and saw her. It was a younger girl with dark hair and bright red lips. Both Rose and Scarlet were chatting her up as if she was the closest of friends with both of them. It made the whole ordeal a whole lot stranger. Her head moved up and her eyes focused straight on me. I hid again. Why did she look at me like that? Like I was something to eat. There were footsteps coming up the stairs. It must have been her but I dared not look. Frozen against the wall, seeing Aunt Christa leave her room to go down the stairs was a relief. I turned once again to look at her, greeting Aunt Christa. Even though she didn’t look my way, I felt her focus locked on me. But why? She left Rose and Scarlet in the foyer area. They looked like lost souls standing there. I watched the stranger. For the faintest of moments I could have sworn her hair turned blue. Her eyes flashed blue too and she staggered back. Aunt Christa grabbed her so that she didn’t fall down the stairs. And right then with perfect timing dad walked through the front door, briefcase in hand, straight from the office. The girl turned to look at dad and her whole appearance changed. Dad dropped his briefcase as he stared at her in awe, his mouth open in shock, lips parted and eyes wide. “Lucy?!” he asked.
