Xavier couldn't stop thinking about last night, he barely slept throughout the night.
His Beta was kissing the lady he rejected, it was like an insult to him.
What would people say? That he didn't have control over his pack and lost his mate to his Beta? What was Nate even thinking? Xavier was still lost in thoughts when he heard noises from outside.
"What's all this noise about?" He opened his door, then he saw Lyra being dragged by his guards to the gate.
"Stop, what is the matter?" Xavier yelled, his eyes fixed on Lyra. Her eyes looked so bright and beautiful, he hated the fact that he found her so attractive.
"Sorry Alpha, she wanted to see you and we told her you didn't want to be disturbed but she's making a scene."
Xavier sighed, "Let her in." He turned and entered his house.
Lyra eyed the guard and followed Xavier inside. She was not sure if she was doing the right thing but it was best to try.
"What are you doing here?" Xavier asked, arching his brows up at her. He didn't expect her to have the courage to show up in his presence after what happened yesterday.
Nate tried to apologize the previous night but Xavier wouldn't hear any of it, he told Nate he was sending her back to her pack, but not alone. He would make sure Lucas felt his wrath.
"I am sorry for what happened yesterday, it was my fault. I started it," Lyra pleaded.
He had his eyes fixed on her and wondered why she was lying. He knew Nate so well, that Nate had developed feelings for her within two days.
No doubt she was beautiful, one of the prettiest girls he had seen, if not the prettiest but she was an Omega. What provoked Xavier the most was that she was wolfless.
She was already eighteen and was still wolfless. Omegas were known to be clumsy and acted foolish, Lyra wasn't an exception.
Xavier couldn't believe she gave herself cheaply to Nate, he was sure they would have f**ked each other if he didn't come on time.
"I never knew you were a chronic liar," Xavier said with mockery in his voice.
"I'm sorry, Alpha." Lyra folded her hands at her back. Xavier watched the way her lips parted when she spoke. She was undoubtedly alluring, she had a charm Omegas didn't have.
"I'm not interested in listening to you, it's best you leave," Xavier said, gesturing to the door with his hand.
He had an aura that pulled women to him and people often wondered why he wasn't yet married. He had rejected the mate the moon goddess gave him and had been seeking other options, Nate suggested they ask Lucas to give him one of the women from his pack.
He liked the way women flocked around him but he never wanted to be attached to an Omega who had nothing to her name.
Xavier thought about Alpha Lucas, he must have thought Xavier was a womanizer who would be moved by Lyra's beauty. Yes, she was beautiful but he needed someone strong and worthy to be called his Luna.
Xavier walked to the large refrigerator that stood in the dining room, his house was huge and Lyra had never seen anything like it before. He had pictures of him hung on every corner of the sitting room.
She always heard of how rich the Bloodstone pack was but she never believed it, she just confirmed it now.
"Your Alpha must have thought that your beauty would captivate and confuse me, when I send you back he'll know that I'm not moved by beauty. I would have gotten a woman since if that was the case." Xavier spoke calmly, Lyra was still standing. He didn't even offer a seat but her presence made him feel good in a way he didn't understand.
"Please don't send me back, Alpha."
"Call me Alpha Xavier, you can't be weak and still be foolish."
A spur of wet heat formed around her eyes but Xavier didn't care. She could cry all he cared, her Alpha was to be blamed for that.
Xavier blamed himself, he should have known Lucas was not to be trusted. They had a deal with a different region, and Lucas did not keep to his part of the deal. He cheated Xavier, and when Xavier found out, he didn't take it seriously with Lucas and killed some of Lucas' men.
Since then, they had been at loggerheads. Lucas finally came to apologize to Xavier and asked him to choose a gift from his pack.
Xavier had enough money so he didn't even know what to ask for, Nate advised him to get a wife from there because their women were really pretty.
Xavier regretted asking for just any lady, he would have asked for Lucas' daughter instead. A thought crossed his mind, what if Lyra was sent here for a mission; probably as a spy?
He stood up and walked to where Lyra stood like a child who was waiting for punishment from her father.
"Tell me, what did your Alpha instruct you to do when you got here?" Xavier asked as he held her hands tightly.
Lyra couldn't hide her fear, her eyes said it all, and she was shaking like a leaf.
"I.. I….I don't understand you, Alpha Xavier." Lyra pleaded, his hands were too tough for her fragile arms.
"Really?" Xavier's eyes widened, as he laughed hysterically especially as she was fighting so hard to hold back the tears from her cheeks.
Xavier saw more reason why he couldn't make her his Luna, she was too soft at heart.
"He only told me I was being sent here as a gift" Lyra managed to say. She was tired of life, at this point she didn't care what he did to her. It was better she just died.
"I take my pack seriously and I don't just need a beautiful woman, I need one who is powerful and brave and who can protect my pack in my absence."
Lyra gulped as his grip on her arm became stronger. "Please, you are hurting me."
"Leave my pack now, and as for your Alpha I'll get to him in due time," Xavier said and pushed her.
Lyra ran out of the building, her face flushed in embarrassment. She was so foolish to have thought that she could find happiness here.
Her life has always been one of sorrow, it just got worse. Lyra didn't know where to go, she would just become a rogue, it was better than going to Brightstone to get killed.
Nate's house was opposite Xavier's, he knew when Lyra entered and had been observing.
Nate saw how Lyra dashed out of the Alpha's gate. Did something go wrong? What did Xavier do to her? He needed to know what Xavier did to Lyra, he was going to talk to Xavier, Nate wasn't scared of the consequences.
"It's high time I put a stop to all this nonsense" Nate muttered to himself as he walked to the Alpha's house.
Lyra was back at the Alpha's house, she had dropped her necklace in his house. It was no longer on her wrist. Yes, her wrist.
The necklace was given to her by her mother when she was three years old, and now it was too small to be worn on her neck so she had it on her wrist.
It must have been the time Xavier pulled her arm that it dropped from her wrist. She couldn't afford to lose the necklace, that was the only physical thing that connected her to her dead family, and it was too precious to her.
An angry Nate came out from the Alpha's house, his eyes blazing red. It was obvious he fought with Xavier.
"Come let's leave this place," Nate grabbed her wrist for them to go.
"Wait, I left my ne.."
"There's no time, we need to leave the pack now!" The urgency in his voice sent shivers down her spine.
Lyra followed him, it was her journey into a new world.
