By the time I entered the hospital, my hands were trembling so much, and I hated it. I especially hated the way my body had betrayed me in front of Sebastian just minutes ago.
When the call had come, he and I were in the kitchen, and things between us had been escalating. Then my phone rang, and everything shifted. The nurse’s voice had been urgent, informing me that my mother had been admitted and that her injuries were severe.
I clenched my fists as I walked down the corridor, trying to calm myself. It wasn’t just the news that had me rattled—it was the realization that I was, yet again, the only one who cared enough to show up. My four elder brothers couldn’t be bothered.
