Nodding Abby goes back to her note book and english textbook. Looking around at the other students of St Margaret’s catholic college school, all wearing the navy blue blazer that has gold piping on the collar of the blazer matching the gold ties. With the school crest on the left side chest pocket. The school crest is of a shield shape made in gold thread that has coming from the bottom a reef of golden leaves and in the middle of the shield is a Champion tree made of gold thread. Behind the tree is light blue until the base of the tree when it changes to dark blue creating a hill like shape which the tree is sat upon. With the bottoms of the uniform being trousers, skirts or pinafore being navy blue, light blue, grey, light grey and gold tartan. A white shirt and black shoes. Eloise sat with her back to Abby watching the people go around. The gentle breeze moves her curly blonde hair making it tackle the back of her neck, as it’s up in a ponytail. Stretching her legs out she pulls up her white knee length socks. “I am so glad I didn’t wear tights today.” She says, turning back around to Abby. “Otherwise my feet would be sweating so much and then it would all turn smelly.” She says as Abby doesn’t bother to look up from her work. Taking off her blazer “How are you not sweltering ?” She asks, gesturing to Abby wearing her blazer, three quarter length sleeve shirt, tie, pinafore, socks and black Kickers boots. With her brown hair up and down reaching around her shoulders. “El it’s not even that hot. Yes the sun is out and it’s warm but not sweat worthy.” Abby says as she highlights a bit of text. “Sorry, I was just trying to have a conversion.” “Well I am busy if you can’t see so why don’t you go have a conversation with someone else?” “Abby! Why would you say something like that?” Eloise places a hand dramatically on her chest with a soft smile playing on her face. “Sorry” Abby says through a small laugh. “Though don’t you think once we are out of here that we will have to make more, new friends.” “Abby we’ve talked about this, we will have each other and that’s all we need. Obviously I guess we will have to make friends with people but you will always be my favourite.” Eloise says turning fully around to face Abby and take hold of her hand. Abby doesn’t say anything or smile but has her blue eyes looking down. “Anyway, let’s stop talking about that boring stuff and talk about my birthday which is coming up, the big eighteen. Finally get to be an adult.” “I can’t, I need to get back to doing revision.” Abby says, taking her hand out of Eloise’s and picking up her pen again. “Right. Yeah you do that I’ll just go and- …. Um … oh will you look at the time I should start heading back so I am not late to class. Don’t want Miss Kirk on my back.” Eloise says as she slings her backpack over her shoulder and hangs her blazer on her forearm. Before speed walking off towards the school building. “But we are in the same class … and we still have twenty five minutes till it starts.” Abby mumbled to herself as her best friend walked away and kept turning her head back to look at Abby. Which Abby looked away from and back to her studying. Walking into the art classroom Eloise took her seat placing her bag and blazer on the table then going to her drawer to retrieve her sketchbook, pencils, rubber, watercolours and paintbrushes. While up she grabs an old jam jar and fills it up with water also grabbing some paper towels. Once she was finished up with setting out her equipment she sat down now unsure what to do. Alone in the room, checking her phone seeing that there’s 18 minutes till lesson starts. Opening her sketchbook to one of her drawings of a girl in a flower field. She remembers drawing it and even now she still thinks something is wrong with the drawing. Looking down at the watercolours. “I can’t make it any worse so might as well add some colour. You never know, it might make it look nicer.” Eloise dips her paintbrush in the water and picks a colour and starts painting. “Oh hello, I didn’t know anyone was in here.” A woman’s voice with a southern accent reaches Eloise’s ears. Looking up from her painting she sees a young woman possibly in her twenties with dyed platinum white, grey, silver hair wearing a black button front belt body jumpsuit and some black ballet pumps. “Um, hi.” Eloise says her hand lifted in a small wave. “Oh right I am new, Mrs Gibbs couldn’t make it today so I am having to cover. I am meant to be the new history teacher but no one else could cover so. yeah.” “Okay.” “Sorry. But when does the lesson start?” “Oh you’ve got about 7 minutes until the lesson is meant to begin.” “Thank you so much.” The teacher rushes over to the desk pacing her laptop down along with her big bag. “ I am Miss Hart.” “I am Eloise Hudson. I also might be in your history class next.” “Really?” “Yeah.” “Well I look forward to seeing you there.” Before anything more could be said the school belling rings out and the double doors to the classroom swing open and students come piling in. “How did revision go?” Eloise asked as Abby sat on the stool next to her. “I got most of the way through analysing Hamlet, though once home I might start on a twenty mark question. Actually at the end of the day do you think you can wait for me? It’s just I am gonna ask Mr Hale if he has any old test papers for me to practise with.” “Oh yeah sure, just try not to take too long as Mam wants me to go straight home.” “Yeah of course, anyway if they complain just say the lesson ran on.” “Nice thinking.” After Abby got ready and seated she looked up and asked “Who is that ?” “Oh that is Miss Hart she is covering this lesson and guess what?” “What?” “She is our new history teacher. Ooh I can’t wait, I wonder what we are going to learn in history today.” “Probably be on World War II again, the rise of you know who.” Abby says her hands outwards dramatically. “I don’t get how you care so much about English but have such a dislike for history. In my opinion history is so much more interesting than English.” Abby gasped louder than she expected while her hand flung to her chest clutching the pearls that she wasn’t wearing. “How can you say such a thing? English is a language, a way of communication, unlike history. My opinion is that English is way better than history.” “But history is so rich-” “Yeah rich of horrible things.” “ugh!” Miss Hart got to the front of the classroom as everyone finished sitting down. “Right hello class today sadly Mrs Gibbs couldn’t make it so you will be having me. I am Miss Hart and I am also the school’s new history teacher.” “You are in your second year of six form right?” There was a collective mumble and nods go heads in agreement. “Good, well then I assume that you know what you are meant to be doing better than I do so get on with your work and if I can be of help please let me know, okay? Well get to work now.” She said clapping her hands together as she finishes and walks off to the teachers desk opening her laptop and off to work she goes. As the classroom starts to fill up with noise of students moving about, talking, playing music from their phones and getting their necessary equipment needed for their pieces of artwork. “So about my birthday, sadly it's on a school day so I was thinking maybe a sleepover, you know just us two. We can watch films, I’ll even sit through the Titanic for you because I love you so much” Eloise says with a smile to Abby. “Of course in return you will have to sit through all The Back To The Futures, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Megamind and Monte Carlo. As it is my birthday and I am so excited to watch The Sarah Jane Adventures, cause as you know I got the whole box set for Christmas but sadly we haven’t been able to watch them. I’ll even get Mam or Dad to get those brownies and caramel shortbread from Mr and Mrs Elliot’s bakery. I can also see if Mam and Dad want to go out, like give them time to themselves and us time alone in the house. So are you down?” “Yes, why wouldn’t I be?” “I don’t know you might be too busy revising.” Eloise says with a cheeky smile as she nudges Abby playfully. “I won’t be, I promise” Abby replied, extending out her pinky. “Pinky promise.” Linking Abby’s pinky with her own, “Pinky promise.” “Though I am not watching Megamind.” “What but Megamind is a cinema masterpiece!” Soon it was the end of a long day. “Ugh, I am so hungry.” Eloise complained as the girls walked down the corridor to Mr Hale’s classroom. “Well maybe if you didn’t just eat those jelly tots from the vending machine, and I don’t know if you spent your money on a sandwich for example, then you probably wouldn’t be so hungry.” Abby pointed out as they came to a stop outside Mr Hale’s classroom. “Good luck in there.” Eloise says as she salutes Abby. Abby opens the door with a smile as a reply she takes a deep breath and opens the door fully and takes a bold step in. Looking around the now empty classroom there was no Mr Hale in sight. "He's not here" Abby said as she steps back out into the corridor with Eloise. "So do you just want to go or ?" "No, I'll wait here for him. He'll have to come back. He has his laptop here and what looks to be a fresh cup of coffee. "Oh okay well I can go see if I can find him for you?" "Really ?" "Yeah why not if I don't and he comes back on his own text me yeah and I'll text you if I spot him and send him your way." "Okay, good luck on your mission." "Thank ma'am." Eloise says straightening her back and saluting Abby as she marches off down the corridor. After a couple twists and turns Eloise finds herself outside Miss Kirk's office. she stops as raised voices can be heard from inside. Getting closer to the door to hear more clearly she picks up on one of the voices trying to calm the loud one down being to Miss Kirk and the person shouting their voice kind of sounded like Mr Hale. "I don't know why you let her get away with this and all the things she does!" "Mr Hale if you could please calm down so we can have a proper discussion like the adults we are." "Why do you keep giving her second chances? hasn't she proved it enough to you with all the chances she gets since she got here and she hasn't changed! you are insanity!" "Paul!" "She is making you become insane! You keep doing the same thing over and over and you're sadly expecting different results! I feel sorry for you, I really do, so I am going to tell you that people like her don't change, they don't change for anything or anyone. I bet she is laughing at you right now for your stupidity." "What do you mean 'people like her'? Paul, you don't even know her!" "What and you do?" "She is running rings around you and you can't even see it." "I am not giving up on her, Paul." "Well you should! Cause if you think she is going to pass and make something of herself then you're wrong and I am sorry to break that to you. But some people just can't be helped and she is one of them people. In her life she will amount to nothing!" "Mr Hale I really do think you are taking this too far and I would like it if you could calm down or I am going to have to ask you to leave." "It's fine I am going, I've said what I wanted to say." "I just think that it's so upsetting that Abby has to tolerate and put up with her. As unlike your beloved Eloise, Abby actually gets work done. She is the top of the class in all her classes and has not once failed or even got below a B and when she did that was only once!" "If only she could be more like Abby." "That's enough now Mr Hale! I won't let you talk about a student like that, now get out!" Hurrying, Eloise sandwiched herself between the bookcase and filing cabinet in the office waiting room. Hearing the door slam shut. She sucked in a breath as Mr Hale walked past her winding space. Once he had turned around the corner she came out. "Eloise, what are you doing here?" Miss Kirk's voice said behind Eloise. Turning around she found Miss Kirk standing in the doorway of her office. "Oh was just looking for my pen I thought I dropped it out here earlier today but I can't seem to find it." Eloise says, biting her lip in hopes to stop it trembling and in hopes to stop the sob from coming out. "Did you hear anything ?" Miss Kirk asked concern etched upon her face. As she moves forward, reaching out to confort Eloise. Only for Eloise to take a step back away from her. Blinking her eyes a couple times Eloise turns back around and rushes down the corridor. "Wait Eloise!" "stop!" Miss Kirk's voice called after her but it soon got drowned out by Eloise's sobs and heavy breathing.
