“Like I said, I have been alive for a long time.” He adjusts in his seat. “I was married once. Back in my twenties.”
“How old are you?” Joshua cuts in. Zeke smirks in a fashion not privy with his age. I grin.
“Old,” he say. “Her name was Adalaine. My Adalaine.” He sighs. “She was human. She was seventeen; a perfectly acceptable age to marry at the time. We dated for a year before I finally told her what I was. She took the information quite well. My girl was very adventurous.” He grins. “The day I asked her to marry me, I also asked if she would change. I still remember, all these years later, the exact words she said to me that night. She was crying and smiling all at once, but she looked me in the eyes, and with the gentlest voice, she told me no.” He laughs, his own tears
