Chapter 35: A Strange LandThere were people everywhere, girls and women mostly. Wait, Gordon realized, there were only women and girls. No men, no boys. Gordon tried not to look at the bare stomachs and shoulders of the woman. The heat clung to Gordon's body along with his sticky clothes. He realized why the women barely had any clothes on in the heat, so he focused on how the place was built instead.
As they strode along the walkways made of wood, he expected they would be shaky under his feet, but they held firm. It almost felt as though they were walking on a dock, but this wood was tied together in a strange way, walkways stretching between the round floating structures. Even in the moving river, the platforms stayed completely still in the water. He would have to ask about that.
