Chapter 2: Bound by Blood

321 Words
The door shut on its own. The sound was like a death sentence. I turned to him. He was clutching his chest, breathing hard. The golden eyes that had held fear… now held pain. “What did you do?” My voice was barely a whisper. “You…” he said, struggling for air. “Your blood… it broke something.” The black blood from his palm changed. It turned red, boiling. The black lines from the contract lifted off the paper… and sank into my skin. It burned. I screamed and dropped the dagger. The black line wrapped around my wrist like a chain, burning its way to my heart. “The contract,” he said, taking a painful step toward me. “It was never one year. It was… forever. Your father lied to you.” “Liar!” I shouted at him. “You said if I broke the curse I’d be free!” He laughed. A broken laugh, with no joy in it. “I can’t be broken,” he admitted. “I’ve been cursed for 300 years. And your blood… your blood is the only key I’ve never tried.” He stopped in front of me. He looked even taller now. His shadow swallowed me whole. He grabbed my chin and lifted my face to his. “Listen carefully, little one,” he said, and something wolf-like flickered in his eyes. “Now we are bound. If you die… I die. If I die… your soul belongs to my pack. Forever.” He pushed me gently against the wall. It wasn’t violent. It was… desperate. “Year one contract?” he whispered in my ear. “No. It’s a lifetime. And it starts now.” Black light burst from the mark on my wrist. And the last thing I saw before darkness took me… Were the fangs that slid from his mouth. To be continued… 🐺🖤
