POV: Rhex
The scent of blood hit me before I turned the corner. Not just any blood, Hers.
I ran, my wolf howling inside me with primal terror. When I saw her crumpled against the wall, Lyssara standing over her with that blade, rage consumed me.
"Get away from her!" I roared.
Lyssara fled, but I didn't chase. Couldn't chase. All that mattered was the girl bleeding out on the stone floor.
"Nyxara." I dropped to my knees beside her, pressing my hands against the wound in her side. Blood poured between my fingers, too much, too fast. "No, no, no. Stay with me."
Her silver eyes fluttered open, unfocused. "Rhex?"
"I've got you." I scooped her into my arms, her weight almost nothing. "You're going to be fine."
But through the mate bond, I felt her pain. Felt the poison spreading through
