Averine’s POV
“Well good sir, you will have to accept my answer. I’m too busy to play your games, do it on other chicks,” I grabbed all my belongings and left. Or so I thought if he hadn’t hold onto my hand.
“What do you want,” He seemed to be offering me a deal. No, anything from anyone but him.
“Let free my hand would be useful,” I tried not to be too sarcastic. I guess I failed since he pulled my hand down, dragging my body to be closer to him. Oh, he smells wonderful.
“Not that, you know what I mean,”
“Look Kai,” I broke free his grip. “I don’t even know why you suddenly started talking to me again and no, I don’t want any explanations. If you think you can hurt me twice, then you are hell-a-wrong. I don’t want anything to do with you anymore,” I walked away, again, and he didn’t stop me.
I dialed Lucy on my phone, “Lu, we need to meet, where are you now?”
Kai’s POV
I wasn’t planning on just messing with her. I do miss her, a lot. But things are different now, we’re not high school anymore. I was with her during high school. Not in a way that we were a couple or anything. It’s just I stick to her every time. She was fragile, she was shy, she was like this little helpless bird that needed to be helped. And her parents were my parents’ close friend, it’s only normal to help her during her hard times.
We then got enrolled at the same university. I used to feel lucky because I don’t have to babysit her anymore. But a part of me just won’t let go of our little habit. I tried to be cold to her. I tried to be a stranger. And hey, I’m the popular kid, not her. We’re not in the same circle. But, maybe it is fine all along, I scratched the back of my head, thinking why did I approach her like that. She was a nobody, and I shouldn’t have gotten my heart taking control.
I left the shabby waffle place and got into my Porsche. I drove home to cool of my head. I was still laying on my bed when I heard a knock,
“Kai, you in there, honey?”
“Yeah mom, come in,” I see my mother walking in.
“You remember Mr. and Mrs. Claffedelle?” I felt a grin on my face, better keep it cool.
“Oh, you mean Averine’s parents?”
“Yes! So, Theresa texted me, telling me that they have moved a few blocks away from our house and that they are going to have a little open house for a few close friends, we were one of them!” She’s all pumped up with excitement.
“Wow, that’s big news,” I tried to sound bored. Maybe Ave didn’t want to see me, but now I know a way to make her beg for me.
“I know right! I’m also very excited, we could now have Christmas and even new year party together! What a wonderful time for Joseph to have a massive promotion,”
“Yeah, mom, looking forward to it,” I answered while scrolling through my unanswered messages.
“You remember Ave, right? Their daughter? She was your friend during high school,”
“Of course, we’re close high school friends,” I had to lie. I can’t have my mom have a broken heart. I know she loves Ave very much.
“Really? I wonder why she hasn’t mentioned the event to you. It’s this Friday evening,”
“Maybe she wanted to surprise me, mom, I don’t know,”
“Oh no! I might just have ruined her plan then,”
“Easy mom, I can pretend,” I added a wink.
“Well then, that is all, I’ll leave you back to rest and hopefully study,” there goes the ‘mom’ tone again.
“Don’t sweat it mom, okay? Love you, promise,”
“Alright, I love you too,” She closed the door behind her.
As soon as she leaves, I went to search for my old high school yearbook. I know Ave will write her phone number there, it was a field required to be filled. I typed her number, saved her as ‘little muse’ and texted her.
‘good evening, Ms. Claffedelle,’
I didn’t get any reply, maybe I should wait.
30 minutes went by, this is taking too long, I called her phone and to my surprise, she picked up.
“Hello?”
“Ave”
“Who’s this?”
“Kai”
She hung up. I was speechless. Does she seriously hate me that much?
I went back to text her,
‘Is that how you call your friends too? No wonder you rarely have them’
‘Leave me alone, jerk.’ Well, 10 minutes interval was still too long for a text.
‘Reply me faster’
‘No.’ 7 minutes, not bad.
‘I heard you’re throwing a party this Friday, aren’t you going to invite me?’
‘There’s no party, stop texting me.’
‘You sure about that? Both my parents are invited’
At this point I’m sure she took my bait because she replied me fast enough.
‘Geez, just come then, do whatever you want,’ she replied me.
‘Going to a loser’s little home party? I’ll skip that, there are better things to do on the weekends anyway,’ I didn’t mean to hurt her but teasing her is so much fun.
‘Then don’t come, I don’t need your presence anyway’
‘Oh, but then both your parents and my parents would be devastated to see how bad our friendship is’
‘Not my problem’ feisty, she is.
‘But it is, because I’ll just say that you didn’t want me to come’
She stopped replying me.
15 minutes later, I hear a ‘ding’.
‘Come, I’m inviting you to’
I put a big smile on my face, wasn’t a bad plan after all.
‘That’s not a good way to invite someone, now is it?’
‘What do you expect’
‘Come over and invite me, don’t worry about dinner, I won’t starve you’
Averine’s POV
I was already at home when I received his text and his phone call that still bugs me. I was considering on telling Lulu but I guess I don’t want this to be a big drama just yet. I’ll keep it to myself for now. I took a shower and cooled my head off before replying to any of his crazy texts. Long before I realize, I was already texting with the popular chick player on campus.
I read his last message, not believing every word. He wants me to come over to his house and invite him? What’s this? Some kind of sick joke? Well, if he’s trying to play me then I’ll play with him. I’ll make him regret what he did to me back in high school.
‘I’ll come by 6, latest by 7’ I replied
‘I’ll be waiting, pumpkin,’ Oh, hell yes you are.
